Hi /g/, first time poster here. I don't want to step on any toes or blatantly break any rules as I'm not really looking for tech support, I'm more so asking for a brief explanation on something I don't understand. I'll shut up and make it short and sweet.
I have the PS3 Super Slim, and the blu-ray lens is malfunctioning. I recently discovered that by rapidly knocking sharply on the front plate while it begins to spin the disc makes it read the disc without fail, 100%, whereas without knocking, it would take fucking ages to run a disc, if I'm lucky.
Why? What kind of shit is this? I'm pretty curious because I figured it out during of a fit of rage and didn't expect it to work. I don't really have any extensive engineering knowledge to make any kind of guess.
Same reason slapping a CRT TV fixes the image: magic

engineer here, buy an Xbox One

answer is obvious, a component of the lens is out of place. By hitting it you put it in position temporarily.
Take it to be repaired before you break it

Would it be wiser to get it fixed or just buy a new one and do a data transfer?
Buy the normal slim PS3. Mine still works from 2010.

Get a 3.55 3rd gen Fat
Now that the PS3 is dead, it's a perfect time as ever

Fats are time-bombs, the super slim is the jam.

Get it fixed and get a used slim as backup.
CFW the slim if you can. There's a bunch of good guides on hacking PS3s.
