I am a linux noob.
I have narrowed it down to Manjaro or Xubuntu. Which would be best?
try xubuntu out for a while and move on to majaro+xfce later on once you get used to linux

Xubuntu. Whenever you don't know what to do just google "____ ubuntu", and you'll have your answer.

So Manjaro is harder?

Xubuntu is good. I have used it for a long time.
Lubuntu is best for slow computers.

Install Arch. You won't regret it.
If you're interested in arch, do NOT go with Manjaro. You should go with antergos as that is literally just a gui installer for arch.
