How poor does one have to be to perceive the iPhone as a status-symbol, or expensive even in general? Sure, having a 128GB 7 is expensive as fuck, but all iPhones?

Carriers practically give them away by offering 0% financing on them. Comparable and cheaper Android phones are only a few hundred dollars less. Small price difference considering how heavily a smartphone is used and for how long they last (1.5-2 years).

99% of people who own any phone just put $100 down then pay the $40-$60/month for the phone. They dont technically "own it" until after 2 years, but you can be on welfare/food stamps and easily afford the newest iphone. the other option is waiting 6 months until after release and paying absolutely nothing for the phone up front and getting a brand new iphone for $0 at $40-$60/month.
