I'm looking to buy a pair of speakers for the purpose of listening to music.

What type of speakers should I be looking for? Active ones?

Also, my budget is like 500€. Yes, that's not a lot, but I'd still be thankful for some recommendations.

If your room is decently big and it's treated, the best speakers are Yamaha HS8.
If your room isn't decently big and it osn't treated, don't even buy speakers. For half of your budget you can get excellent open heapdhones.

I have a pair of Monoprice bookshelf speakers and they're great.

18 months of almost daily use and they aren't falling apart or anything like you'd expect $30 speakers to.
