Which laptops are recommended for linux distros?
I've read optimus and/or laptops with broadcom stuff usually don't go well.

Pretty much any Intel notebook with Atheros LAN/WLAN would be the best.
I have one and tried pretty much every GNU/Linux distro and it works fine, no need to hunt drivers and use non-free alternatives.

You can dual boot with Mac OS X just fine in any Mac.

I don't know which kind of laptops are in the market right now and what are their specs, but you can safely pick up any Intel Core i5 or above with HD Graphics and it will serve you well.
If you want to do video editing, choose one with Nvidia graphics instead.

Anything but new laptops
Or wait some time if you want a new laptop
