That doesn't look like it would be very useful. Their claim of partnering up with Microsoft may lend some more weight to the likelihood that they will deliver but I just don't see it being a good experience.
It is under powered, it has shit all RAM, it's using eMMC for the main storage and it has Windows 10 on it. It just won't be an enjoyable experience.

How does it compare spec wise to a Surface, or some other Windows tablet in the price range? Otherwise only advantage I can think of is it's more or less pocketable.

Do they not realize that anyone who needs a powerful ultra small mobile device and who is willing to spend $700 on it already has a flagship smartphone and therefor does not need this?

I mean it's a cool idea and it would be nice to be able to have x86 compatibility in a microcomputer as opposed to ARMshit, but $700 is just laughably overpriced.

With any luck I'll be able to pick up one of their first manufacturing batch from some bankruptcy/overstock website like woot for $150 in a year or two.

Don't confuse SSD with eMMC. Chromebooks, cheapo tablets and most likely the device in OP use eMMC which while being solid state memory lacks proper controller and uses slow ass flash chips. 90% of eMMC storage solutions are actually slower than regular HDDs.
