New macfag here.

Is there a safe way to crack FCP? As with the Adobe suite where you just download the legit versions and enter a serial?

I don't trust the torrent versions and I won't run any """activator""" (unless it's a keygen or some shit that can go in a VM)

so i know not to purchase used hard drives, but what about used ssd's? should i stay away from those?

i found a used 128 gb samsung 830 ssd for $30.00, surious if i should just spend the cash for a new one.

If it were a newer model maybe, but SSDs have made vast improvements since the 830 was released.

what worse hqdefault.jpg or image.jpg
>>
>>56719370
That's a pretty good deal. Even if it dies young, you'll probably still get your money's worth. Non-M.2 ssds aren't a whole lot better than that one. 128gb is a little small though.

I've had a laptop for 4 years, I can't remember when I got it exactly

Worked great for the first few years, but then it began its slow descent into shit. Culminating with unable to detect a battery, processor running at 100 degrees regularly, shutting off due to heat, and then eventually not booting at all.

I try to treat everything as a learning experience, so what can I do to make sure the same fate does not befall my next laptop? It was the first I ever had.

I am unable to use system preferences for one user only

I have run disk utility, in safe mode as well as well as used /bin/fsck -fy

All my systems programs are up to date, with nothing left to update in Apple store.

Still the same problem

I have had this issue for a few days and this morning browsers also froze..By running above and creating a new identity the main identity is now back to just system preferences issue.

Any way of troubleshooting?

many thanks,

Andrew

Anyone here familiar with negative paypal balances?
Basically, I got scammed $15 bucks on ebay after I sold an itunes gift card. The buyer claimed he didn't authorize the purchase, which is a complete fucking lie.
He got the money back, got my itunes card, and paypal charges me an additional 20 bucks.
So now I have a negative balance on my paypal account. I don't plan on using paypal ever again. What happens if I leave it alone? There's no fucking way I'm going to pay them. I can't remove my card or address so that's out of the question.

10.11.6 from bad to worse - El Capitan is a mountain of problems

I know El Capitan is a mountain, but I had no idea it was a mountain full of problems.

What was released by Apple as a version for "performance enhancements and bug fixes" has turned into the exact opposite and with each new version the problems just get worse.

10.11.6 was released yesterday and now for the first time EVER this morning when I woke my Macbook from its sleep it had completely frozen and would not allow me to log back in, just had a sticky mouse cursor and the horrid spinning beach ball.

Of course had no choice but to force a shutdown and restart .... had my Macbook for 19 months, never had one freeze of any sort so the proof in the pudding is that a new bug has been introduced in yesterdays 10.11.6 release of El Capitan.

Not only does El Capitan NOT live up to its promises of being faster and better than Mavericks or Yosemite but it is more buggy than any OSX I have used yet. They have done very little in the way of actually improving anything and instead keep sneaking new features in which nobody wants or needs.

I really need to now consider going all the way back to Mavericks because it was fast and snappy as any Apple OS should be but Yosemite slowed things down and El Capitan even more, nobody can honestly sit back and defend El Capitan as being solid and fast without first going back to one of the older OS versions and seeing the difference.

I absolutely will have to stay away from the new Sierra if the last 2 versions of OSX are anything to judge by. Sad that Apple has very much lost its way.

My calendar data disappeared when I installed El Capitan.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

2.5 GHz Intel Core i7

Just installed OS X El Capitan, 10.11.6

When the installation was complete I discovered that my calendar data was gone. I tried to import it but couldn't find the calendar files when I started from the import button. Can anybody help me out of this mess? I lost appointments and information that I haven't recorded anywhere else. Thanks.

Is there a way I can log into a website without a web browser?

The web browser sends data to the site's server when you log in, so I'd think there'd be a way to generate and send the same data directly without the need for a browser.

Is it possible?

This would make it much easier for me to automate things.

Ever since I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite my Yahoo mail account via Mac-Mail has failed to work - cannot send/receive anything.

This saga started a couple of weeks ago when I decided to upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite. Upgrade went smoothly however my Yahoo mail accounts failed to connect. My Gmail, Outlook, and iCloud accounts all work. My Yahoo account works just fine on my iPhone and iPad, and of course via Web (Safari/Firefox). After trolling through the internet on this I found very few clues for Yahoo mail issues directly linked to Yosemite.

I've deleted the accounts and re-added them (several times). There are two ways email accounts can be added - via Internet Accounts from the System Preferences and also from the Mail application itself. From the Mail application you can also verify the detailed settings of each of the mail accounts. I've checked, double-checked and nothing worked. The following are a sample of the errors I've been receiving:

Mail couldn't log in to the Mail server “Unknown”.

Notes couldn't log in to the IMAP server “Unknown”.

Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server “Unknown”.

Unable to verify account name or password.

Mail can't connect to the Yahoo! account - Enterpassword for xxx.

There was a problem setting up the Mail account - Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server

I am constantly prompted to enter my password. I've checked my settings over and over - the detailed mail account settings via Mail--> Preferences. MyYahoo Contacts, Calendars, Message and Reminders all appear to connect just fine by Mail never does.

After all of this I decided to perform a clean install of Yosemite - so I did and . . . no change . . . Yahoo! mail problem persists.

Not sure what else to try. I am wide open to any ideas or suggestions

EL Capitan: Screen flickering uncontrollably and forces me to reboot

I downloaded and installed El Capitan on my Macbook Pro 13-in, Mid 2012 about a week ago. I have always used multiple desktops and a second monitor to keep my apps separated and to help my productivity stay high. A day or two after upgrading to El Capitan, I noticed that the screen would flicker like crazy and I would be forced to shut down. This usually happened while I was utilizing my second monitor. I decided to reinstall the OS X and I stopped using my second monitor. Even after reinstalling and only using multiple desktops, I have the same issue recur over and over again. The Apps I commonly use when the flickering starts are: Firefox, Logos 6 (Bible software), and Scrivener. Sometimes I also have Evernote, Microsoft Word and Excel 2011 open. But the first three are always open due to the fact that I am writing a book. I never had the flickering issue with Yosemite, Mavericks, etc. Just El Capitan. I want to revert back to Yosemite but I did not have Time Machine running (I know, just stupid). So I feel like I'm stuck with El Capitan.

Is there anything I can do to stop the flickering? Or do I need to wait for Apple to send out an update?

Is the windows firewall (w7) retarded by design, or is mine broken? I've tried blocking a website IP in the incoming section, and I can still get to it. I've tried blocking one of my own applications in outgoing section, and it still accesses the internet fine.

Since upgrading to Yosemite my Mac mail inbox has been playing up.

All the emails are there and show for a minute or two then the view changes and the inbox appears empty, selecting a different inbox (iCloud account, hotmail, Gmail) and going back to the Exchange inbox will make the message visible again.

I have tried rebuilding, deleting the account and adding it again but all to no avail. New messages are coming in and all the mail is there it is just that they do not show (or more precise only show for a short period).

This is the case both on my mid 2012 MBP and my mid 2013 MBA both running Yosemite version 10.10.

There might be a key you can press that will toggle the display from the laptop screen to the external monitor. Plugging the monitor in doesn't always make a laptop start using it. If you can't find anything like that by looking at your keyboard or in a manual, try finding a hotkey for switching displays. On windows I think it's windows+p, but I'm not sure. You'd have to log in blindly before you do that.

Actually a lot of people do that. There are velco mounting kits, or you can use regular sticky velcro on the side of your case. There's a solid case for ducktape and rubberbands. With no moving parts SSDs are pretty agnostic about what's holding them in place.

>>56720438
See if there's a hardware switch or button on the laptop that toggles wifi on and off and use it. Then I would download a new copy of the drivers directly from the manufacturer's website. If you've never had windows 7 on that laptop before, it's possible there aren't any working drivers for it.

>>56720682
Don't use free VPNs. Their whole purpose is to mine the fuck out of your data. And if you don't think that matters, you'd be supprised. You'd probably need to buy a 4chan pass, even with a paid vpn. Alternatively you could just set up a VPN connection to your parents/friends house and use that without any trouble.

Every rom is different, which is part of why I like to use XDA (where you can usually search a good 500 page thread for questions about a given rom), but xposed etc are compatable with many roms. A newer version of android is only a problem if you don't like some of the changes android has made, most of which are paletable, especially in a more tweakable environment. Some roms on some devices have specific feature failures like spotty wifi or bluetooth, so you'd want to check that. But usually you can go back with almost no consequences aside from those of unlocking the bootloader. Be aware that android pay and a few 3rd party services may be permanently disabled on that phone. As far as having root goes, you are a little more at risk than if you didn't, because now you have to be careful about which apps you give root priveleges to, but it's a lot like the kind of risk that comes from having administrative access on windows. If you're careful about what you install and who you give unsupervised physical access to, you should be fine.

I put an SSD in my laptop earlier this year and it went bad, but I got sent a new replacement. The laptop came with a hard drive with windows 8 on it, I had windows 10 on the SSD, but the only serial I have today is the windows 8 key from my laptop (I retrieved it from the registry). Since this is the same machine, can I install windows 8.1 on the SSD and re-use the serial?

I see from le rebbit that I can: https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/46ody7/are_windows_licenses_tied_to_the_harddrive_or_the/d06t9el

But my question goes one step further. For backup purposes I want to keep the hard drive the laptop came with and all the contents on it; if for whatever reason I need to put it back into my laptop (which i'm doing now until I put the SSD in) will it freak out over the serial?

The variables are that it's the same machine, same key, but two different drives.

nah man, my phones been rooted since day 1, i just never tried a custom rom
xposed is compatible with the roms i was looking at, but i was wondering if the modules that i currently have, or other root features would be incompatible with a different rom / software version
good to know i can simply revert the rom but i don't believe it's the same for software version

Actually microsoft made the surface because no other manufactuer was stepping up with a quality soulution. Microsoft generally doesn't like making hardware unless it has to. When it comes to windows tablets "decent" and "cheap" are generally pulling in opposite directions, but you may be able to find an excetion

This is pretty standard behavior for any OS; the taskbar is how running programs are mannaged by the user. Many programs have an option in their setting to have them minimize or hide in some way if you want them to keep running. You'll need to configure them individually.

>>56722117
Ocasionally a newer version of stock will make it difficult or impossible to go back to an older version of stock, but that's usually an issue with not having unlocking the bootloader first, and at the very least you should always be able to go back to the most recent version of stock released for your phone. As far as custom roms go the version of android shouldn't matter at all.

No. Either you took the windows 10 free upgrade offer, or you have 2 entirely unrelated licenses. Either way you're fine. In the first case you're not technically allowed to have them both "installed" at the same time, but it almost never causes a problem even when they're installed as a dualboot.

My aunt gave her old Samsung Galaxy Neo Plus to me, because it "doesn't work".

It fell on her toilet a while ago, and while it's capable of turning itself on for a couple seconds, it shuts off after that and I cannot bring it to respond. Same happens when I plug it into a charger.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong on it's circuits, and the battery's brand new. Also, if I access recovery mode (vol- key, home key and lock key pressed together) it works as if there were nothing wrong with it, and stays on without trouble.

Any ideas as to how can I bring it back to life?

It varies wildly. Workstation graphics cards can put up a good fight sometimes, but as a general rule they're nowhere near as capable as they're equivilantly priced gaming cards. They're optimized for high quality over high fps, and they don't have drivers talored to specific games. But you can sometimes get decent results.

Yea I'm taking an OS course and we're required to single step debug the linux kernel but the professor is making out how to do it as some big secret and the whole class is stumped with nobody able so far because inline functions don't compile with optimization level -O0. I realize you could still debug with kgdb with it compiled with -O2 optimization but we're specifically required to turn off all optimizations.

Can anyone tell me what font this is or how I can find out? It's an EPUB file.
>>
>>56724676

I've actually read through all of those today in trying to figure this out. I've even found old emails of Linus Torvalds back in 2003 when he was arguing in support of the use of inline functions because "99% of bug-reports are made by non-developers" and that it's not practical to support single stepping the kernel with -O0. The best option I can find so far is to use Linux 2.4, which is from 2001 back before they started using any inline functions, but I'm not sure we're supposed to be using such an old distribution for this course. Then again, the professor is really old and hasn't taught this course in a long time, so maybe the last time he required his class to do this was before 2001, back when it was still possible, that is, unless there is still some method that I can't seem to find.
>>
>>56724713
I was just thinking that, you'll probably have to use <2.6. If you have time to verify that and get it done before it's due, I'd ask him tomorrow.

You can definietly convert back and forth. The windows install contained in the image needs to be reinitialized to pick up new drivers whenever it's going to be switched to the bare-metal sytem or the virtual machine's generic hardware. This is not something that just happens on the fly every time you boot up. But if you installed a WinToGo copy of windows in a VHD image, you could probably boot it up interchangably in Hyper-V and nativeboot. I haven't tried it, but it would make sense. I'm not sure how much being a WinToGo install would affect performance, but being on an internal drive I would expect it to fare pretty well.

Physical is the actual sticks like picrelated, virtual is when you reserve a chunk of slower nonvolatile storage like HDD SDD or flashdrive so you can store the less imminently critical contents of memory there when you run out of real ram. The swap file is what you call that chunk of displaced memory. Cache is super tiny, super fast, comparatively super expensive dedicated memory attached to specific things like drives and CPUs to use for time critical things that normal memory would be too slow or far away for.

Wired memory refers certain OS contents (files etc) that are too important and time sensitive to ever be moved to a swap file or interrupted. Memory compression is another software side thing and is about compacting the contents of memory so they need less space and/or minimizing the use of the swap file. Buffered memory is a type of physical ram usually only used in servers as it has an added component which makes it work better in systems using very large amounts of memory, which makes it more expensive than normal ram. Practically speaking you really shouldn't have to remember anything after cache.

>>56725467
7z is usually the most efficient, but zip is more widely accepted and extractable by default in pretty much all operating systems. Rar is mostly used when you need to break a file up for convienient uploading/downloading.

I googled up on win to go a bit, and if i understand correctly it's a feature of w8 and 10 that makes it load more than the necessary number of drivers, so it can run from a usb drive when you plug in multiple pc-s.

What i'm not sure about is can i just turn this thing on if i install windows on my ssd normally, or do i need to install windows in a temporary virtual machine first, and than do a win to go install of windows to my ssd from there?

WinToGo makes windows hold on to drivers when they're not in use, and keep them in seperate profiles for each sytem it has booted on, so that on subsequent boots it doesn't need to reinstall anything, it just loads the right profile.

What you asked is if you could use an install interchangably between a virtual machine and native boot. You didn't say anything about installing directly to a parition on the SSD. With this method your install would never leave it's VHD image file.

>>56725781
You didn't say anything about wanting touch/flip screen. That one is more mobile, but it drops the IPS screenm which is a big plus to have. It also has a noticeably smaller screen. Otherwise they're the same. I'd go with the HP, but It's always been my style to get bigger laptops and leave portabillity more to phones and tablets.

The probem with calibration is that you really can't do very much without a calibrator. There are plenty of utilities to walk you through it, you probably already have a few installed already, considering windows, your GPU and your monitor. But they're all comparitively useless without a calibrator. If you can borrow one of those from a university or something it's easy.

>>56725870
IPS just looks a lot nicer than normal screens. The color is much better, and as a side benifit you can look at the screen from almost any angle without it looking washed out. They're just one of those things that's really hard to live without once you've gotten used to it. There's no reason a high end TN pannel couldn't have good color, but the majority of IPSs look much better than the vast majority of TNs.

I'm going through my drives and folders and copying and backing up everything I think is necessary, but I can't help but have this feeling that I'm going to lose something important once I wipe the drive. Any tips? Like are there any important program files that I might have forgotten about?
>>
>>56725963
Game save files, content's of torrent clients, browser history/bookmarks. Make sure you've got your new drivers lined up, go through your installed programs and think if any of them would have anything important in them.

If you want you can back up the whole drive in a restorable macrium system image. You can use windirstat to hunt for large files that have already been backed up so you can remove them (do the same for large programs), so the image is as small as possible.

Custom loop is like a 8/10 on the meme meter
Submerged is around 20/10

For a full custom loop setup you're looking at 50 for a pump, 20 for a reservoir, 50-100 for a radiator, 50-100 for a waterblock, and another 50 at least for fittings.
>>

>>56726548
No, definitely not. Clockrate can only be used for direct performance comparisons on identical architectures. We really haven't moved much in frequency in the last decade or so, but we keep making other improvements. For intel processors there tends to be about a 10-15% performance gain per generation at a given clock speed. And it's completely useless to compare an intel processors clocks to amd.

>>56726561
That's one way it goes down. Often it's possible to gain elevated privileges without unlocking the bootloader or modifying the recovery at all. Across the different device models, carriers and versions of android there have been a lot of different security measures and almost as many techniques devised to subvert them.

>>56726566
You'll want to get a windows ISO and use it as the source of your replacement files.

>>56726704
Defragging on windows 10 should be automatic and unnoticeable in the background.

The registry is a fundamental part of the way windows installs and runs programs and the system. That's almost like asking why linux still has a terminal.

>>
>>56727120
i dont know, probably depends on what phone you have and how you set it up. there are ROMs made specifically for minimality and battery life etc.
>>
>>56726961
Neither of those are reasons I would choose it for. It's ideal if your phone is old and running slowly, if it's not going to receive new features or important security updates, if you want to get rid of some bloat or have more control over your system. It does have a nice, customizeable and snappy layout, and it does give you access to a lot of features and controls that stock android does not. There's also a lot less carrier and google integration, especially if you don't add gapps, so you could argue that it's less botnet. But really it just feels free, like you're finally on a system that was made to let you do what you want, rather than one that's designed to meet the agenda of a chain of corporations. But if none of that bothered you at all in the first place, then you'll probably be pretty happy on stock. Most people are.

The entwining is based on the old pro-logic concept where a third speaker plays only tones shared by the left and right channels as a "back" channel. This allows low frequency bass through, as it's always encoded in mono, but also certain midtones and muffled speech depending on how the movie's mixed. I forget how it's wired exactly, but I think you use both positives (L+ and R+) into the speaker's + and - terminals. It works, but the results aren't stellar.

Your best choice would be hooking it up to either the rear left or right channels instead, and just buying an equaliser to filter anything above a certain frequency. You can make one out of capacitors and copper coils if you want to save cash. Car sterios run on the same system.

first, you have a radio button list, they belong to each other because their name "country" is the same.
remove all the "checked" attributes. you can only have one selected at a time, but for this you don't want any.

disclaimer: this is not how you'd usually do it, but I assume the chapter wants you to get the basics right.

for each radio button you have add the onclick attribute that calls a function.

then define that function. in there you get the source element with "this", in your case "this" will be one of the radio buttons you clicked, so you can read the value with "this.value"

then all you need is to have an image element and change it's src attribute.

Also don't buy something stupid like 4 * 4G RAM for DDR4, if you want to go to 32 then you have to replace something, however if you go for a single 16G dimm you can easily step up all the way to 128G

Almost, the majority of posters here are doing the opposite, being kept alive without a head.

If an app is asking for permissions it shouldn't have, you should avoid downloading it right?
It's common sense.
But what's to stop an app that genuinely requires those permissions from violating them too?
>>
>>56729610
you can revoke that permission, but it might start crashing.
>>
>>56729610
All comes down to how much you trust whoever made the app, and how much you need the service it purports to provide. Nothing really stops them from using the permissions you provide to them however they like, and unless you can peruse the source code and have the time/expertise to actually get a comprehensive understanding of the entirety of it, you can never truly know.

>>56729656
I know

>>56729664
Man
If it comes down to things like trust it sounds like it might be simpler to accept the fact your privacy will be violated and just use whatever app you want
>>
>>56729610
on my phone i always disable every permission for every application unless I see myself needing it frequently. For example snapchat needs the camera almost all the time, however Facebook Messenger has to ask for permission every time.

Why is it that when I'm on Skype with friends or something, my sound will just cut out. When this happens, all Youtube videos stop playing, all sounds from my PC just stop, including games and everything. And for some reason, it causes my Skype to drop out and hang up too. To get it working again, I have to make it so no sound would be playing if the sound was still functional (eg. move to a page on the browser where no sound would be produced, hang up on the Skype call and close my games), and then it would start up again. This can happen any number of times throughout the day, and sometimes it doesn't happen at all.

I got an HP computer that I want to PXE boot, the model is 6360b. Somehow when I press Network Boot from the boot options, nothing happens. It doesn't attempt to connect via the network cable or restart the computer. It looks like it's simply refreshing the boot options. What should you do in a situation like this?

I made a liveUSB of a cracked Windows 7 installation and had to go to hell and back to make it work on newer Intel chipsets. However I need to make another liveUSB for something else but can't find my other thumb drive. Is there a program that creates an EXACT image of a thumb drive so I can restore it later? I actually tried to make the same Win7 LiveUSB on another drive (when it was still around) and it failed miserably, so I want to keep the one that works working when needed.

Actually, fuck that, that probably would not work either. Upload the file somewhere?
