Does powering your computer on an off repeatedly wear out the components or is it just a meme? I'm wondering if it would cause more damage to my stinkpad's battery to just shut it off after I'm done taking a shit or just leave it in sleep mode when I'm done with it.

if you want to preserve your battery life, charge it to ~40% and store it away. Still battery will lose ~50% or more capacity in the first 2 years or more. It just decays itself.

Starting / stopping HDD has the highest risk of killing them.
Otherwise it doesn't matter for other parts. Still, better products sometimes has expected lifetime in hours in manual / warranty. So keeping it off while you don't use it can help. It will at least safe electrical bill.

it does not wear out any components

your PSU is an overpriced bridge rectifier and some resistors.
dont believe for one second this kike bullshit will obtain any wear

your overpriced japanese capacitors are made from basic materials which will not corrode within the chinese brine they fill into that shit
