The reasoning somebody gave here, that they did it for Europe (which soon enforces a law that all charging ports have to be USB and no proprietary shit and so Apple can now in court say "it's not a charging port, but a headphone jack") sounds quite reasonable

No it isn't. Wireless everything is retarded. I have never had an issue with wired headphones, wired charging or USB mass storage with a cable. It's one of those things that if it isn't broken, it's not worth changing unless improved. This isn't an improvement as much as it's a drastic change to something new. Most mobile phones have shit battery and more wireless options will make it last even less.
