>buy two 8TB HDD outside the country + shipping cost
>still cheaper than a single 6TB of the same brand + free shipping from local stores
Just fuck my shit up
Also is it worth buying a used HDD? It's just for archiving/back-up and will barely be used.

I did once. I bought a bunch.
Now I have a stack of 2TB's waiting for me to make a filesystem safe enough to use the pieces of shit.

Amusingly, I have the reverse 2x 6TBs, for about the same cost as 1x 8TB.
No. never.
>used HDDs
Might as well buy some used condoms while you're at it.

Are you speaking from experience? I guess the price was too good to be true.

Depends on the price difference. Also price comes into play when you ask if you're willing to put that much on the line
HDD storage seems to have hit a wall. I had expected to double my storage for about the same price as 2x4tb HDD's I bought a couple of years ago by now.

Not who you're quoting, but:
With new HDDs you have your luck and the model's reliability.
When you buy someone else's HDD, you acquire their luck. Not all of my used HDD purchases have failed, but they all have had defects. My 3TB Hitachi takes a while to spin up, and my 2TB 7200RPM Toshiba only writes at 60MB/s.
t. never had an HDD fail until I bought used.
