I've been asking myself why I own a smartphone.

The phone is nothing but an endless distraction. You even get distraction from your distractions. For example, I would always browse 4chan on my phone. But because I'm on my phone posting is a pain, and I'm essentially reduced to short shitposting. So I can't even 4chan properly.

I would use it to text my gf, but we live together, so what need to we have to be at each other's beck-and-call? Why would I want to be at anyone's beck-and-call? Why would I want my boss to be able to call me to cover a shift last minute? Etc.

The amount of productive things I use it for include google maps, and the occasional phone call. I'm not a damn CEO.

This is another factor to consider. But I think if you own a smartphone, your privacy is lessened by the very nature of the phone. Obviously you can be tracked when the phones are pinging cell towers constantly for signals.

Plus the cost. I don't know about most of /g/ but in Canada the data rates are grotesque and the major providers are all in collusion with each other so there is no real competition.

After removing lots and lots of bloatware and installing the stock Android icon pack this thing is godly. really fast, lots of customisation options. unexpectedly the camera became my favourite part of it. The depth and detail in the photos is amazing.

Nope, didn't smell it! But considering it uses dual cameras both for separated image intake I can pretty much say it's better. The reviews compared the Honor's camera to that of a Galaxy S7 and it won by a landslide in terms of photography.

From a 5x owner, 2GB of RAM is not that bad but I normally have it about 80% full from not doing very much. It slows down from time to time, not often but it happens. It's annoying when the keyboard takes a second to pop up or when I'm typing it loses all responsiveness. Not certain this is from filling the RAM or not because I haven't ever checked the RAM usage when this happens, but it's likely.

Oh and without any statistics to back it up because I don't need them, Android 7.0 is definitely draining my battery faster than 6.0, exact opposite of what they promised.

The best features about Nexus phones is the completely vanilla, stock Android experience, and quick charging on the 5X and 6P. The 5X is usually pretty snappy, the big fingerprint reader is nice and easy to find, and works well unless your finger is wet. The camera is okay not extraordinary but better than average (4K recording.) You'll buy the 5X fully knowing it's just a less powerful, cheaper version of the 6P, and after a while of using it, kind of want the 6P more but still not regret your purchase. It's a good phone.

Gonna be my first time in the market for a brand new phone, contract on my current phone (my first contracted phone) expires any day now, would have upgraded to a Nexus 6P a couple of months ago when I could do it for free but they've been out of stock on the phone for months.

The phone itself holds on pretty well despite being 2 years old. It's stuck on 5.0.0 which sucks, but other than that with root and a few xposed modules it still feels snappy, fast and perfectly daily-drivable.

Just got a Samsung J3, gotta say quite like it. No ROMs I can find but rooted it, TWRP on it, and xposed, so I'm happy. A bit snappier than the LG Volt 2 I had before.

I have one issue maybe someone can help with though. I want to very simply remote control the mouse/keyboard on the computer when I'm in bed or on the couch. Issue is I use Wifi Tether Router and every app I try says "no wifi available" because WTR seemingly has wifi turned off (since it's acting like a router). I can use ftp, touchosc, etc, but all those remote control apps say "no wifi available" even if I have the option of manually punching in IPs. Any advice is welcome.
