What's the better option here for the long-term?
>buying an external 2tb hard drive, plugging it into the raspberry pi and use it as a media sever (kodi,plex,etc)
>buying a 2tb HDD and plugging it into the raspberry pi to do the same thing

why dont you just use 3rd party add-ons via Kodi, anon?

Because I'm a data hoarder and I like to keep my anime on my hard drive. This also includes books and manga.

This. The whole point of it is to stream content

Can you recommend a better media server that organizes shows?

What's the difference?
>both options involve a 2TB HDD and a raspberry pi

Well, theres a portable hard drive that just sticks into your computer through a USB port.
And then there is an HDD for which you have to get an adapter for.
Just wondering which one would be able to store my data the longest and be the best solution for a raspberry pi.
I've got a 2tb HGST HDD in a Rosewill RX35-AT-SU connected to a Raspberry Pi 2 via USB. I'm sure there are a thousand configurations that will work, but I've had no problems with that configuration. Despite what /g/ will tell you, the RaspPi2 is more than fast enough to stream all of your media with Kodi.

Alright this looks like the option I'm gonna pick. Thanks for the help anon.

>streaming != torrenting
please stop
I ended up building an entire HTPC desktop. 2TB isn't nearly enough and having a bunch of externals sitting around looks stupid.
I'd build a NAS server but I don't really have a good place to put it in my apartment
