Should I get an RX 480 or a GTX 1060?
I don't wanna spend more than $230. I've had good experiences with AMD and not so good experience with Nvidia, except the last drivers for some reason made it so my TV doesn't recognize my desktop anymore, no idea how to fix it. I also hear that new drivers downclock but optimize the RX 480. (Yes AMD drivers do suck.). Should I get those drivers or not? Will the 3gb instead of 4 be a problem with 1080p? Might get a 1440p monitor eventually. Will the lack of async compute be a problem with the 1060 too? I didn't jump on the Windows 10 bandwagon because of how many games it broke so I won't be using DX12, and no fucking way am I paying for Windows 10.

Wat? The new drivers only down clock the shitty reference cards and Windows 10 hasn't given me any problems. But get an aftermarket 480. It's a great card and the better but if you're in the US. Best price/performance card out now is the RX470 though, and it can be had for $170. I got the MSI variant for that price and love it.

Your fucked up post should be a sign; go for the 1060. Unless you enjoy 50ms frametimes.

The 4gb 480 and the 3gb 1060 are fine for 1080p. They 4gb 480 may cut it for 1440p, but I wouldn't trust the 3gb 1060 for that resolution, so you get out of your price range by buying the non gimped 1060. If you wan to save more cash, get the 470.

there is no such thing as a future proof midrange card. 1060 and 480 both will be low tier performance in 2 years (see: r9 285 and gtx960 and 7850 and 660 for similar examples)

It'll last longer than most with the whole Ayysync and DX12 + Vulkan, but yeah in 2 years it'll be shit, but the 480 would be better in the long run
