The proper order of learning programming languages are:

1) Java should be your first language, scripting languages might seem like they are simpler but they are not, you will miss a lot of concepts by starting with a scripting language first. Java will teach you solid OO and static typing will start you with good habits.
2) You have to know C and understand the concepts of pointers, stack frames, memory allocation even if you never use C in your career.
3) Some functional language, could be Lisp, Haskell, Ocaml, Elixir, just learn the basics, understand how recursion, closures, high order functions work.
4) Learn a scripting language, Python, Ruby or Javascript. Learn basic bash commands but dont learn bash scripting, use a scripting language for scripting.
5) Pick whatever kind of programming you want to do and learn the language for that kind of programming
