Daily reminder that high level languages are fucking brain damage. Languages like C++14/17, D, and Rust offer all the same features at a much lower cost, and are just as simple to program in. They also allow you to actually control how your program works, and how much memory it consumes.

When ever you write something in Haskel, Scala, Lisp, Scheme, or Arc you invalidate all hardware performance gains of the past 20 years.

Scala and Scheme, sure, but Common Lisp with a backend like SBCL is ridiculously fast for a high level language. Java's raw CPU performance with none of the obscene memory or storage usage or long startup times.
Haskell is a meme language, but its speed is also decent.

Valid. But the release executable are massive since they're a semi-compiled snap shot of a REPL. CLASP is pretty quick too.

Is bad. Try to pass by value. Yeah eventually it'll JIT all your functions together, but the spin up lag is horrible. LLVM/GCC/ICC will figure this out before you have an executable.
