Is a late 2012 Mac Mini with an i7 for $1000 a better value than a brand new Mac Mini with an i5 for $1100?
>>56510851
Yes cause the later ones have dual core i5.
>>56510851
A non-apple alternative is way better value
>>56510875
I guess my real question is: why is an older i7 (with a lower clock speed) better than a newer i5 (with a higher clock speed)?
>>56510888
I need it for work.

Are you sure the old i7 has 4 cores with hyperthreading? Also it depends on what you're trying to do. You won't see a noticeable difference between the two unless you're using handbrake or autocad or some such. Besides that, the Mac mini is most likely more battery efficient with better screen/keyboard/etc. quality and so on. Is the mini from 2012 used?

What? Mac mini does not include screen or keyboard or anything. Only the pc

I see now I apologize I didn't know you meant it like that. Taking from what >>56510983 said when you use it for high end working software albeit photoshop/autocad/3d/DAW/multitasking you will see some difference in performance. I would recommend building a hackintosh if you want parts that you find more reliable then paying for parts that are older or the newer mac mini.

It doesn't include a battery, either.
The level of tech info on /g/ is as bad as ever.
