Google needs to stop OEMs from adding bloat, they need to stop carriers from adding bloat, they need a unified update mechanism that actually works on all phones.

The reason iphone is so succesful and has been for a decade is because Apple was and still is the only company big enough with the clout to negotiate with the major phone carriers and tell them they can only sell the iPhone if Apple has final say over what apps get preloaded on there. Google/Samsung/LG will never have this amount of leverage over Verizon or ATT so their phones will always be subpar.

Apple isn't magical, they're just big.

Compare it again after the latest iOS release that will slow everything to a crawl.
