that's bullshit. you can allocate much more vram than that before framerate dips. try modded skyrim with massive textures.

given how much the 970 sold, it definitely is.

never had problems with modded skyrim or any gaymes when i had my cuck card. the only way you would ever hit the 3.5 barrier are in a few games (the newest COD and that mirrors edge denuvo trash) where ultra settings eat tons of vram and perf for no discernible visual gain

>given how much the 970 sold, it definitely is.

you realize that nvidia doesn't get the full MSRP when a card gets sold by a retailer right? $30 per card is probably more than they actually profited for each card.

>proper punishment would have been to issue a full refund to all owners,

the judge that decided the compensation clearly disagrees with you, and any sensible person would as well, since the card is fully functional and the only misadvertised attributes were useless technical details (ROPs and L2 cache size)

You do know that you have to send the product back to get your refund in those cases, right? I can tell you've never bought anything in your life nor are you familiar with the return policies of most sellers.

It's very rare that you get to keep the product. And that's also a business model that doesn't work, because you'll just get equipment scammed off of you. My friend got like 3 IPS monitors for the price of 1 by complaining that each one was broken somehow.

I honestly believe the marketing fucked it up.
There is actually 4GB of VRAM in the 970, but its not all accessible by the user.
Also the 970 is one of the most sold cards, because it's good.
And AMD did the same shit with their TDP.
How could they not know about that?
>>
>>56482317
It's all accessible. It's just partitioned into 2 and the partitions cannot be accessed at the same time. It has to access 1 or the other at any given time.

Myself to a degree. Say like the 390 used twice as much power as a 970 but for only what was it, 15% more performance?

The trade off isn't worth if I'm using it a lot, we're talking 4 hours plus a day if the weather is shit and I'm not getting about much.

But now with Polaris Nvidia is still outpacing AMD but it's by about a lightbulb or two's worth at peak rather than 4 for just one part of the computer.

Allows you to use a smaller PSU and focus on OC'ing other parts too.
>>
Nvidia is the only innovation when it comes to GPUs

they put fucking desktop performance on laptop chips, meanwhile AMD's crowning achievement for 2016 is release a chip thats equal to the GTX 970 in power and efficiency, a card from 2 years ago.
>>
>>56478187
I'm just pissed that they hold back driver optimizations for the next-gen cards, I use vsync most of the time and better performance/watt would unburden my old power supplies and allow me to keep some cards around a little longer

AMD purposely breaks games so that they can make their shitty tech look better.

Just look at Battlefield 1 and Deus Ex, both AMD branded games, everything in the benchmark's a fucking mess but one thing you'll notice is that somehow the Fury is on par with the 1070 and 1080.

>>
>>56485413
Hello PS4 player, I see you got lost in /g/. In PC games you can adjust settings to change how much VRAM they use.

More VRAM = you can use higher resolutions, higher texture quality, more MSAA, etc. Assuming you have the hardware to actually render those higher settings anyway.

But yea, unlike in PS4 and Xbox One which is what you use and where you can't change settings, in PC games it's possible to tailor graphical settings to suit your graphics card.
>>
>>56485413
I can still play most games on ultra or high settings on my GTX 670.

More like 45-50 and higher
>>
>>56484744
If they flipped their budgets, AMD would spend its new budget on hookers and blow and end up in the same place they are right now.

You can't throw money at a problem and expect that it will fix itself. It might if it's something like a person who needs to die and you're hiring an assassin, but in this case it's pretty clear that it's not money that causes the problem.
>>

Right now Nvidia is the ONLY innovator in GPUs, though.

Self driving cars? Nvidia.
Mobile chips that BTFO Qualcomm? Nvidia.
Laptop GPUs equal to their desktop counterparts? Nvidia
Deep Computing which is being used to solve a wide variety of problems? Nvidia
Only GPU manufacturer with proper OpenGL support? Nvidia.
Just about any scientific or professional application? Nvidia.

>It matches the 390X pretty much everywhere, you miserable shill.

it doesn't. the 480 is only on par with the 390 and 970 in the best case. the 1060 is on par with the 390x and 980.
>>
>>56488448
well the problem is ive played witcher 3, GTA, skyrim, TF2, fallout 3-NV it crashes on all of them but im pretty sure they all use Direct x so that really might be the problem. but im willing to try anything i havent already, cause this is retarded, i have a PC i cant really use for gaming just sitting here
>>
>>56488464
Really? Because every. fucking. review., every last one, shows it hanging around the 390X and even beating the Fury in a few places.

clearly from this graphic you've posted we can also see that a 295x2 is slower than a 290x and that a nano is equivalent performance to a fury non-x.

any non-reference 1060 will be superior value than a 480

>which is what most people on a budget will be using.

games are not gpu bound at 1080p with these cards. trying to imply that '480 = 390x' because of this is farcical. if the 480 was really on par with the 390x, it would be performing the same at 1440p and 4k, which it clearly isn't.
>>
>>56488719
>muh non-reference cooler
Isn't that what you were bitching at me about earlier? And anyway, obviously the RX 480 benefits significantly from a non-reference cooler as well. You'll notice the only 480 in this graphic is a reference cooler and it's still a close competitor to the aftermarket 1060.
>>
>>56488719
>games are not gpu bound at 1080p with these cards
If that were the case then changing GPUs wouldn't affect framerate so much, but obviously a 1080 can do a lot more on the same processor than a 1060 or a 480.
>>
>>56488746

has nothing to do with the cooler, and i wasn't posting in this thread earlier. the reason why AIB 1060s are better are simply because they're priced lower than the goyim edition (which is why perf/$ is so low for the reference 1060 in TPU's charts).

the 1060 itself doesn't benefit much from a better cooler as it only draws 120w at 100% load.
>>
>>56488758
Some of them are priced lower. The best ones are higher. But you can get a Powercolor 1060 for about the same price as a STRIX 480.

lol

We all thought they had abandoned their plans for locking driver updates behind their software but seems its still full steam ahead. This is just phase 1 of the plan.

still experiencing the same issuea. Leagues image will freeze but the game still runs in the back ground, it minimizes the game and the cursor that was current on league when the game crashed is now the mouse cursor on the desktop. i cant click anything. the PC isnt over heating. so i have no fucking idea :(

Sometimes I wonder if the shills realize they're doing straight up damage to the company whose dick they take every moment.

Like where do you think you are, actually trying to spread misinformation and straight up attacking characters on a anonymous imageboard, when a company needs shills, and resorts to lowly tactics like "lmao you virgin obsessed" it shows how much value their actual product has.

Whatever, at least these are good indicator for those smart enough to do their own research, about the intentions of a company, so they can avoid them.

Thanks shills, now I know not to buy shitvidia.
>>
>>56489107

Not if you want every slider maxed out (which you shouldn't).

Nvidia is a bit like Apple. They have some sort of cult following where people will defend them over things that are indefensible.
>>
>>56481520
What, really? They're pulling a razer and requiring you to have an online account to do stuff with your own hardware?

"usable" in quotation marks. As in you can technically use it, but you fucking wouldn't, because it kills performance.
