ProtonMail. Respects your privacy. Free for a single address. Less integration with other services like GApps, but not so much that it's a pain to use. Paid plans for more addresses or custom domains. Do it anon. You won't regret.

Yep. Got one of these for my personal email address. Thing is our university hands out .edu emails so I usually just use that because it automatically adds our professors to the contacts of that account.

Liar. Universities have university emails. You would have given that email address you lying fucker. You're trying to hide something.
Postfix + Dovecot + amavis + clamav + spamassassin + Roundcube.
Very painful, but I learned a little bit more about how this emails' persistent archaic protocol suite works

What about Tutanota? Is it any better?

Not every university everywhere.
Often the addresses are reserved for the staff only, not the students. My home uni just started issing them last year.
Host your own or get someone else to host one with your domain name

I've done something like [email protected]
I'm unsure about how professional it is.
But I've also got an email address from my uni, so I there's that.
