Does anybody know why, when I connect my laptop to my tv, screen is shifted over an inch? On the left side of my tv I see a 1 inch black bar before the desktop starts. And on the right side it seems to be cut off with an inch of screen left that I can't see.
Is there something I can change in the settings to properly align my desktop screen with my tv?
TV sets like to do that. Usually you can find something about it in the TV set's manual, or configure your video driver's video output settings to move the image a few pixels to the left.
Use the hdmi-port on the TV marked computer or dvi, i.e. check the manual or fucking google it with your tv model

Could be overscan.
Because you're using VGA, you fucking retard.

Most tv's have something called like a 1:1 pixel setting. My walmart sceptre does anyway.

This. Check your GPU settings.

I'd rather check the TV's settings--the GPU is likely doing its job correctly.

Usually has something to do with your OS. Try GNU/Linux.

Exactly this.
TV's overscan slightly to make the image appear larger on display models, images are almost always stretched or scaled and not 1:1 native.
Extremely frustrating.

play with the fps settings on your tv. Thats how I fixed it on my tv
Thank you everyone for your replies. I'm not sure where my manual is but I'm sure I'll find it on google. My computer is a toshiba and my tv is lg. They seem like good brands so hopefully it won't be too difficult to figure out. I'll mess with the settings. Thanks! ;)
