I'm deciding between getting a 2tb or 3tb hdd i've heard that 3tb hdd have a higher failure rate regardless of the brand is that true ?
>>
Not really true, Just sucks more when you lose all your bits though.

What ?
>>
>>56455116
Not him but means you'll lose more data if it fails provided you actually fill the 3 tb entirely.
>>
>>56454719
I have a 4tb hgst that has been flawless the past two years.
>>
>>56455116
Larger drive = quicker deletion of data
>>
>>56454719
I have a toshiba 5tb hard drive and it's great. Toshiba actually makes really good drives for really good prices, got mine off amazon on sale for $120.

for a second i thought that image was a cover of one of those animorphs books.

I really need to go to bed.

It has more discs. That is literally the only reason for the higher failure rate. There is simply one more piece of the device that can fail than on a 2 TB.
>>
don't waste your time buying anything but HGST while they are still good
>>
>>56455613
someone pointed out that toshiba owns the hgst 3.5" factories and blackblaze hasn't added any new "hgst" drives in years so there is no data to go on whether toshiba or hgst is the better make

What's that other one...

Western something. Sizzlin'? No... Someone help me out, here.
>>
>>56454719
3tb would only have a higher failure rate *regardless of brand* if it's multiple platters. If it were a single 3tb platter, it'd have a lower failure rate than say, 3 1tb platers. Mroe moving parts = higher chance of mechanical fuckups.
