Should I install Windows 10? I've been using W7 for years, and I'll have to reinstall soon.
>>
7 is absolutely the better choice, I mean if you are a gaymer then Dx12 support is a thing you may want it for, but if you can help it, just stick to 7.
>>
>>56454264
I usually play games, but I really appreciate safety and privacy.
>>
>>56454170
Why do you need to reinstall?
>>
>>56454418
Lots of un/installations, registry editions, remains of other programs, porn, undeletable files...
>>
>>56454319
You won't really get that with 7. If I were you, do this:

>Install windows 10, partitioning drive for half space
>Install Ubuntu on other partition

If you like the look of Windows, install Cinnamon, it makes Linux look close to Windows.

Use Ubuntu for everyday stuff. Use Windows for games ONLY. Put Steam on Linux as well as windows so you don't miss out on friends messages etc.
>>
>>56454170
I just moved to 10, coming from years of 7.

Seems to be much quicker than my baseline installation of 7 ever was, but there are a few annoying things.

I personally don't want to miss out on certain features like DX12 and proper CPU debugging in VS, so 10 seems like the way to go.

Edge kind of surprised me with how lightweight and quick if feels in comparison to anything. Might use it if they add adblock and whatnot.
>>
>>56454170
I just installed XP last night, and it is super comfy. W10 is terrible and there is really no reason to run it unless you are some kind of l337 gaym3r NVIDIA/AMD fag that needs to play games at 100fps.
>>
>>56454724
Holy shit, this post has to be bait.

Not the W10 part, but the XP part. It's absolute cancer to use in the modern world.
>>
>>56454748
>It's absolute cancer to use in the modern world.
It's the best operating system Microsoft has ever created. I don't see why it is cancer.
>>
>>56454679
I really like how Linux manage fonts. It is another level. To be honest, the only desktop I really liked is the one of elementary OS, but it's terrible to deal with it for common tasks.

The real use of my PC is:
>Games
>Music (foobar2k), Movies, Internet (+Tor)
>Writing.

>>56454724
I had to install XP for somebody a few days ago. I remembered it better. Btw, not easy to deal with Windows Update and Explorer 6.
>>
>>56454814
>elementary OS desktop.
>>
>>56454641
how is most of that a bad thing?
>>
>>56454808
Less secure than 10 and 7.
New software does not support it.
New hardware does not support it.
No driver development, particularly with graphics drivers.
>>
>>56454949
Also XP is 32-bit only, a dying architecture.
>>
8.1
>>
>>56454987
No, it has a 64-bit version. It has/had very shitty support for anything, tho
>>
>>56454987
Didn't it have a 64-bit version?
>>
>>56454949
>>56454987

>Less secure than 10 and 7.
If I could count all the times someone attempted to hack me, and added it to all the times I took my computer off of my home network and connected to some public network, it would still be 0.

>New software does not support it.
I have all the software I need.

>New hardware does not support it.
I have no plans of getting rid of my T60 anytime soon.

>No driver development, particularly with graphics drivers.
muh gaymes
I don't think anyone over the age of 18 cares about this.

You're all either being pedantic or retarded. Windows XP 64 bit was unusable awful and had horrible compatibility.
>>
>>56455167
Where did we say otherwise?
>>
>>56454679
>If you like the look of Windows, install Cinnamon, it makes Linux look close to Windows.
Why do people keep saying this? KDE looks and feels far more like Windows.
>>
Win7 is basically the new XP.
However there will be nothing beyond that because Microsoft can't into making a good OS anymore.
>>
Windows 7 is better for games too, considering the fact that Windows 8 and 10 introduced an artificial 4GB limit to the amount of vram DX9 applications can utilize. Meanwhile, people use 6GB+ of vram on modded Skyrim installations on Windows 7. Not to mention, Vulkan works just fine on Windows 7, unlike DX12. That's probably going to be what pushes it to the top.
>>
>>56455167
>Windows Server 2003 was unusable awful and had horrible compatibility.
According to you.
>>
>>56454679
>>Install windows 10, partitioning drive for half space

>Ubuntu partition gets nuked next Windows 10 update
>>
>>56455486
Isn't skein dx11?
>>
8.1 is faster than windows 10

True or False /g/?
>>
>>56456241
Speed-wise 7 > 10 > 8.1
>>
>2016
>not using enterprise LTSB

Pic related. Metro is completely ripped out, no Cortana no Edge no nothing. Paint, old calculator and Internet Explorer are pretty much everything that comes with this.

Perfect OS for a workstation. Installed Hyper-V features and Visual Studio 2015.

MSDN subscription paid itself within a week of freelancing as a .net dev, everything from now on is pure profit.

Life's good. Get Win 10 Enterprise LTSB.

How's the 2016 LTSB version working out for you? The last time I tried it, it was buggy as hell (like being unable to access freshly-installed programs from the start menu without re-logging in).
>>
>>56456428
>>56456445
Interesting option. Is it stable enough?
>>
Does torrenting it have any downside at all?
>>
>>56456994
The 2016 version is rock solid. Haven't looked back to anything non LTSB.

Good thing tho is if you enable dev. mode you can sideload metro apps, they can still run (valuable info if someone is into UWP development, like myself, pays good cash).

All in all, this is how Windows 10 should have been from the start.
