My laptop battery died while i was doing a factory reset. when i turn it on, i get 'an operating system was not found try disconnecting any drives that dont contain an operating system.'. then it says press ctrl alt delete to restard. i dont know what to do and f8 isnt opening the BIOS options. its a windows vista by the way, but i installed windows 10 on it and was restoring factory setting from windows 10.

Kill yourself.
Install gentoo
>ignoring the warning you likely got about plugging in your computer before beginning
you took the risk, this is what you got
time to bust out a windows dvd/ufd and reinstall from scratch (unless someone more familiar with windows 10 factory reset can suggest something less drastic)

install gentoo
For real.
Btw you machine is fine. Also f8 normally doesnt open the bios.

>>56452900 OP here
i in fact did not get a warning about plugging in my laptop, but i take full responsibility. i have no problem with starting from scratch, i just dont know how. the laptop cant even come on. it just says an operating system was not found etc.

insert a windows dvd/ufd and it should boot from that, if it doesn't, check your laptops' manual to find out which button to press to either enter the bios and change the boot order, preferably bring up the one-time boot list (often one of 'esc', 'f2', 'f8' through 'f12', 'del')
