I've got this faint crackling sound on my pc whenever I perform an action like opening a new window, scrolling..it's the worst wheneve I open a game. I've tried muting the sound, did not help. I've disabled the audio driver, did not help either. Updating the driver also did not seem to fix it. I plugged my headset in a different jack but this also did not solve my issue. Does any1 of you have an idea or encountered something similar to my problem? pic kind of related i guess

Onboard audio? PCI? PCIe?

Have you tried shielding all the wires in your PC? Sounds like you got exertion-coil whine. The cure can be as simple as wrapping a few layers of electrical tape around your GPU's cables or even painting its capacitors with clear nail polish will help

Coil whine from GPU, I have the same issue. Its much reduced when using the rear ports though.

Buying a new soundcard won't fix it because it will still be near the GPU. Even the "shielded" sound cards apparently don't work. Only solution is to get an external soundcard that works off a digital output.

Either splash out and get a DAC, or buy a cheap USB soundcard off ebay/amazon.

Onboard audio

Hmm I'll try to run the pc without GPU

Removing the GPU should fix it. The noise is tied to framerate, which is why causing screen updates by scrolling and playing games causes it. If you really want to hear it, launch portal 2 (or possibly other source games) without vsync. The intro video runs uncapped at about 3000fps and really makes the card screech.

Yeah, I have the same problem with onboard Realtek audio chip. I had to install an old SoundBlaster card to fix it.

You're SOL.

>>56445740
Are you wired or using wifi? Try plugging in a network cable and disable wifi to see if it helps
>>
I have this same problem but with an external audio interface. Feels bad, need one of those power isolators.
>>
>>56446140
Oh yea btw, electrical tape won't help, got a 750 TI so no 6/8 pin on it

>>56446140
Just removed my GPU and tried onboard. No crackling/whining anymore. So it really seems to be the graphics card. I did not know GPU coil whining could affect only the sound, I thought you'd hear the GPU itself whine, which I do not. I got a spare GPU left which I'll try as well tomorrow to be sure about it.

Ye sucks...I still got warranty on it I think.

>>56446548
I'm wired, no wifi.
>>

I am very familiar with this problem. Most likely your GPU is not faulty, even though the problem timing is correlated. I bet if you plug in a USB-powered hard drive you'll hear a pop when it connects and maybe even hear it spinning up through your headphones.

Onboard audio implementations are shit. I would be very surprised if adding a decent sound card didn't fix this issue. If you have a legacy PCI slot, you could get a Creative Audigy2 ZS off ebay for probably <$10. Very high quality card IMO, and great Linux support.

Before this thread, I thought the sound was just a Windows sound effect I was too retarded to figure out how to turn off.

I've struggled with this issue with my new build. One way to reduce it is to turn off speedstep/c-states in your bios. Doesn't get rid of it for me, but makes it much quieter at normal listening levels.

Oh, and this is with an external firewire sound card on its own TI firewire card, so it's definitely some hardware in the PC causing it. Buying a new sound card won't necessarily fix it.
