I want to build a Plex/Media Server PC for really, really cheap. I already have a couple hard drives ready, not sure if I should switch to NAS.

Any tips? How should I go about this? Should I do it as a server OS or just regular PC that chills there?

buy the appletv or a mac. macs are unix and make for reliable servers

Ok so I used plex for a bit but it would lag like shit when trying to stream 1080p. Any alternatives that will allow me to play videos to a Google chromecast?

I got an intel nuc 4250k specifically for this purpose.

Now it's my torrenting machine (sickrage, jackett, couchpotato, auto-dl irssi), VPN machine, plex machine and NAS.

I recommend it for sure. I got it in a sale though, so not sure how much they usually cost.

Could be the device. I have a smart TV, a ps4, age a Roku. The Roku is the only one that can handle the videos.
