Are USB powered monitors worth it?
I'm building a portable gaming case for my PS4 (I travel a lot) out of an attache case.

Just buy a gaming laptop, lol.
My m18x has been working great since I got it and it's a hell of a lot more portable than a stupid PlayStation or xbox
>>56434553
Just get a tablet and use it as a monitor
>>56434553
Literally get a GTX 1060 laptop.
>>56434646
>gaymen laptop
thonkpad+eGPU master race
>t420 $200
>egpu dock $100
>decent gpu $100
>random ass psu >$50
>>56434753
>eGPU
>>56434725
But then I can't play MLB or Madden

>MLB or Madden
>>>/r/eddit
Not even /v/ would want you.
>>56434764
if OP wants to haul around a console and external monitor he might as well get better performance and moar gaymes by doing egpu
>>56434767
>sports games
I honestly don't know why these are so popular
>>56434553
>USB powered monitors
Where would this ever make sense?
A laptop already has one built in (and can do ps4 remote play) and I'm fairly sure you can buy an actual sony tablet with remote play built-in too.
>>56434794
Because I like baseball and they don;t play it year-round
>>56434794
if OP wants to haul around a laptop and external GPU setup he might as well get better performance and more than 1x PCIe lanes and moar gaymes by doing gaming laptop

gaming laptops are full retard
>obsolete in 2 years without any chance of upgrades
>most are pooly built with shitty thermals
>all have shit battery life even with the optimus meme
>cost a minimum of $800
>>56434833
and I forgot about the 0 resale value because no one wants to buy a used obsolete gaming laptop
>>56434819
I want something I can drag to work with me and play in the passenger compartment of my rig when im not driving. Sports games don't come on computers and i don't want to spend a couple grand.
>>56434848
in that case a USB monitor might be decent, but they're mostly all designed for office drone work
>>56434859
On a tangent, will a ps4 support a usb monitor? Don't they take the video signal through the data bus. Or are there ones powered by separate power over usb and hdmi.
>>56434874
some have external video input and some dont
>>56434874
The ones I was looking at used HDMI and USB power
>>56434833
>without any chance of upgrades
Sounds to me you're looking at the wrong gayman laptops
>if I had kept my Clevo P150EM I could have shoved a 980m in it today
Oh well, I don't need the portability anymore, so I was happy to trade it for a desktop. Still the best laptop I've owned though, that cooling system was almost legendary, and 3.2kg was still pretty manageable for a 15 incher.
