Well, those Mobile GTX1070/1080 version are really a step forward, because they are barely slower than the desktop versions.

But the notebooks are still double the price of the desktop counterpart.

If they are about the same price, I am gonna go for a such a notebook.

It's really ugly, and doesn't have a TrackPoint. These are the deal-breaking reasons.

Aside from that, I'd rather not ever give nvidia money again. I've had loads of issues with their products in the last two years. Their drivers are just complete ass and they are not very cooperative with the community.

My next laptop will probably be the ThinkPad Retro. Hard to say if I'll get it on release, as I am a NEET atm with hardly anything saved up.

Just why?

Do companies even make profit selling gaming laptops? I feel like the market of people who want these is small, and so many companies offer thier own variations and I'd say most consumers set their eyes on Asus,Alienware, Razer, or Msi. I mean does Acer expect the time and effort spent on this laptop to pay off? I don't know anyone who'd think that looks good.

It's not about profit, but image. For example; camera companies sell maybe a few thousand of their high-end models, it's the cheap ones that sell most, but on the notion that pros prefer this brand, so it's what everyone goes for even if they're not really getting the same thing.
Similarly, this generates an image for Acer about them making outrageous and awesome laptops, and they expect the average person to settle for a cheaper one, still having been "sold" on the expensive one. The one on the show floor didn't even work, and they didn't need it to, they needed the branding to work.
