I'm trying to decide between the gtx 1060 6gb and rx 480 8gb as upgrades to my 560ti. Which one is better for 1440p at high-ish settings for newer games like Witcher 3? I don't really play too many games anymore, and my older ones will run (mostly) run above 60fps maxed out with 2x AA at 1440p on my 560ti. I need to upgrade for these newer games to run well now though, Dark Souls 3, Witcher 3, and Nier Automata and Mount and Blade Bannerlord when it comes out.

RX 480 vs gtx 1060 for high-ish settings on 1440p?
I'm in the US btw, so the 1060 is $259 and the rx 480 is $269.

Do yourself a favor and buy something better if you want to play above 1080p. I recommend the 1070. Don't know the AMD equivalent. I'm sure it's nice as well.

Well, I don't really need to play on ultra.
I'm only upgrading because I specifically can't play Witcher 3 or Dark Souls 3 at even 1080p on lowest settings at 1280x720 with my 560ti. Witcher 3 seems to run at 40fps+ on the 1060 and 480 at ultra settings at 1440p so if I turn down AA and a couple other settings it will still look pretty good and I'll finally get to play it.
The cheapest 1070 is $399, which is kind of a large jump and I don't really play games enough to think it's worth it.

my 970 plays witcher 3 on near everything ultra at ~55-60 fps all the time
both cards should do fine 2bh, 1060 has some nice extra features like shadowplay obv but that's if you need them
