would 'low-poly' provide any advantage in performance if you were to make a game with models created in such configuration?
Lmao can't let you do that Star Fox

After pixels die down this will be the next "artistic" indie game design.
Low poly A E S T H E T I C.
And yes OP... it would. But what kind of gem could take advantage of that? Something with a huge world?
possibly, depends on how well-optimised the engine was.
but then you'd probably end up bumping it right the fuck back up for things like shaders, lighting and anti-aliasing.
(more edges = more jaggies)

Probably, you could make a massive world with low-poly/low-res textures, given the massive amount of memory avaliable in modern computers.

Inbreds belong on >>>/tumblr/

Was there something incorrect that I said?

Essentially runescape
>>56428300
take a look at vr on mobile devices, limitations (such as poly count) are becoming part of the style.
>>56428387
Sure.
I just think it would be a cool aesthetic.
You could give the game pretty simple lighting actually.
>>56428440
Yea but thats not a really good look.
Imagine something like the OP image for an entire game.
>>56428463
Now THAT is good shit.
Lets get a fantasy RP gem w/ those aesthetics.
>>56428463
Right. I remember that arctic tour when I tried out google cardboard.
>>56428372
it's already a thing on itch.io, check out every game using unity on there and i'll guarantee you they all have low poly aesthetic. games like scoot scoot still look nice though.
>>56428486
oh hai
>>56428471
OP's pic for an entire game would fucking kill my eyes faster than leslie jones' nudes leak
that said, i've always felt there's a niche market there for low poly artsy fantasy style shit. things like that No Mans Sky game would have been infinitely more successful if they went for that whimsical artstyle, rather than trying to blend muh realism with muh pretty colours.
what got spat out was like looking at amateur photography with the saturation/vibrancy cranked up to a disgusting 100, whereas something low poly would have contributed to the surreal style.
or maybe i'm just talking out of my ass.
>>56428516
Not as good because its not a consistent style.
>>56428547
You're spot on.
I wouldn't want to play a low poly game everyday but pixel side scrollers like starbound took off because they are fresh and without a "serious" commitment.
