I suppose so. It's certainly possible if you're able to connect it to your computer and it has proper drivers.

I used my Xbox One controller as a mouse, but it was annoying and uncomfortable. There's software that makes it easier, Controller Companion I think, but that's stupid.

Keyboard have plenty of bindings you can you CTR + * or ALT + * that should give you more than you'll ever need.

I don't see a purpose in them unless you do something that requires find tuning and precision that the analog sticks provide such as drawing and DJing. I assume drawing would be the best use for it, but it's only a temporary solution.

It's a gimmick basically.

Is interracial gaming acceptable?

I use my DualShock3 (wired & wireless) with Blender and as th mouse on the desktop. I've mapped the keys using AntiMicro. It will work as in some games with the xboxdrv.
