The pre-select watches have been chosen.

If you remember, Tudor submitted 3 black bays for different catagories and all three have been pre-selected. Which is pretty crazy.
>>
The UN Grand Deck Marine Tourbillon is on the pre-select list.

It may be a little loud and big at 44mm, but it is a little mechanical marvel and is consistent with the "deck of a ship" astetic. They actually have this watch submitted under the "sports" category.
https://youtu.be/J_-siQSiVLc
>>
From the Seiko Camp, the Fugaku Tourbillon made pre-select under the "Artistic Crafts" category.

So did the Presage chronograph in the "Petite Aiguille" category. This would be the least expensive watch in the GP, I believe. If you know about the 8R family Seiko chronograph movements, or have heard me talk about them before, you know they are the ones that use three vertical clutches, one for each chronograph hand for smooth engagement. A pretty stellar mechanical chronograph movement, and one of the best deals in new mechanical chronos there is.

This particular watch is tribute to Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, which was made by Seiko.

Competing with the Presage is the Hermes, Slim d'Hermes. I'm expecting this to win that category if they do not pick the 'email' hermes to win the overall Men's category.

Picture of the Hermes H1950 movement. The entire watch is under 10mm thick, the movement itself is under 3mm thick.

You can read all of the pre-select here:

In addition to the normal judged categories there is a public prize you can vote for at the top of the page.

Man it feels like my SNK809K2 is taking forever to arrive. Should be here tomorrow but FUCK man.
Can anyone suggest a strap? I have very small wrists (@6"). I'm thinking of either a nato strap or a 3 ring zulu. Which one makes the watch look bulkier?
Also how is the quality of the products on this site: http://natostrapco.com/ ?

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

The Seiko SNK809 is basically a Type-B Flieger for sissies and little girls who don't want to use their original Disney-licensed Frozen watch as a daily beater.
>>

I already have one of those on the way. Should arrive tomorrow, but that has a vastly different layout. It's a B type AND it has a date. Not to mention if a Laco is considered shit tier then I don't think SNK809 can be considered that much better.

Protipp: No one will ever get close enough to read the brand name on the dial. In a normal conversational (or "social distance", see pic) distance a Bagelsport looks the same as a Grand Seiko. Only inside the personal space can that be read, and the people you'd let normally let that close will already know about how much of a poorfag you are.

it's good to buy used on ebay if you are unsure of a watch, if you don't like it you can resell it and not lose money

if you love it and have to have a new one you can sell it and not lose money then buy a new one

when you go through a lot of watches buying new ones you don't know if you will like and losing 100bucks re selling every one can add up

Can anyone help a /g/uy out?

I've never done this before, so i took one of my dad's old watches (he hasn't used it in many years) and I decided to replace the battery for practice.

When I put the new battery in, the metal casing around it felt kind of funny, like it was sticking up. I also had to force the back faceplate in there by holding it down and screwing it. When I pressed some of the buttons do set the time, they just went further into the body and did not come out like normal, like a vidya game controller gets when the buttons are sticky.

Did I just fuck the watch, or can I fix whatever I did wrong? It isn't that big a deal as my dad wasn't using it, I just want to know for reference in the future so I can do my own shit.

>>56446378
The battery should slide under that tab, it was probably what stopped the case from closing. The buttons should be pushed back out once the movement is seated in the case properly again.
Make sure the battery is facing the correct way when you put it in again.

Hope that helps you

Probably way, way below 50%, but still unacceptably high if even ETA themselves do not recommend constant handwinding.
>How is it not a budget movement?
It is, but a whole replacement bridge isn't the same as for example swapping a click spring, you goalpost-moving dummy.

Or a Seiko. Or a Citizen. Or a fucking Vostok even. All of these have both automatic and manual winding and none suffer from this defect. Or any modern automatic movement for that matter.

I'm starting to think Casio seriously underrates the water resistance of their terrorist models. There was that WUS thread with some guy going diving with their chrome terrorist with no problems so I gave my F-91W a round in the pressure chamber.

TL;DR: this little fucker survived 5atm/50m (done with air, not water) with no problems, though according to the instrument it was absolutely flattened, more than five hundred micrometer deformation, that's half a millimeter, but it survived without being flooded with air.

So, I'm also a whovian so I went and bought pic related. How much did I fucked up /g/?

Be glad it must've cost next to nothing

now get educated and spend thousands of bucks on a watch that you'll keep forever
>>
>>56457510
It was 75 usd plus shipping. :-(
>>
>>56457427
Why is everyone who likes campy ironic low budget British sci-fi a cringy autist? Oh, wait.
>>
>>56457263
yeah, but you make a good point

i'll just stick with quartz, and have one or two nice mechs maybe a hamilton khaki and something

Just get the Citizen, it's a fucking brilliant watch.
>>
>>56457657
I can see why people make fun of this guy.
this is what I assume most people who hate steinhart look like

his reasons are
1: it's affordable; great point, fuck fiscal responsibility
2: they're unoriginal; duh
3: bad resale value; which isn't true, at least in the US
4: it's a compromise; absolutely it is, but seriously being a snob here
5: because I said so; why else.

then lots of screaming "shitter" over and over again and wining about "muh status symbol"
he doesn't really have a point, like most watch snobs.

news flash, wearing anything expensive will never make you look anything other than the fat cunt you are.
>>
>>56457539
Learning cost

Prepare your anus: The annualized service cost for a nice watch is higher than that.

>Archibald Reginald The Third
>Literally paid $20 to say shit about Steinhart
So, already 30 seconds in he's admitted to being a paid shill, and autistic.
Good start.

>Unoriginal movement
Oh, sorry not all watch brands produce inhouse movements.

>Unoriginal design
One could argue that any watch with a maxi dial is a submariner copy. If you wanted to be as autistic as that cuck.

>Resale value shit
If I put my OVM on US eBay the day I got it, I would have MADE, yes, MADE, £80.

>Cheap watches break easier
Wow, fucking PhD material right there that is.

>BECAUSE I SAID SO MOM!
Wow.

>Like you drive a 1.6L Escort!
What, you mean those fuckers that always insist on doing 120mp/h on b-roads? Is that a bad thing to drive an Escort now?

Does this fuck even own a car, or did he sell it to buy more SHITTERS, like that Explorer II?

LWT. the best watchmaking school in the america.

we spent most of the first year learning micro mechanics. we made a watch and a clock, none of which I could keep.

The problem aren't the models, anon. It's a boring collection because it lacks proper variation. I just see a set of variations here on what are essentially just 2 models.

been considering getting this Seiko SKZ323 "Stargate". Don't see too many divers with white dials. Looks snazzy tbqh
>>
>>56459322
It's relatively pricey for a 7s36. The new version has a 4r36 but they really fucked the design, the dial doesn't have the cool two tiered effect and it has the most pig disgusting cyclops I've ever seen. Still pretty tempting though, the white is definitely superior to the black.

Snk803 and you buy your own brown leather strap. It's your best bet.

>>56460199
I can't speak for that watch in particular but my bulova is pretty good quality, even the strap, it was an accutron 2 and cost me about $200
May be too large for you as i think it was about 41mm, but was very slim so it wears alot smaller looking than it is.
I'm guessing that bulova will also be pretty slim
>>
What's the best quality NATO you can get? I mean something that can actually justify the money. I'm looking at what this anon >>56426271
said since my SNK809 came in the mail and the strap on it is uncomfortable as fuck. Are phoenix NATO's da best? Also I need it to have many holes since I'm using the second to last on the one that came with the watch.

I got it at the lolex store. For tree fiddy.
