Did you install the proper GApps for your Android version? If you did, disable some unneeded jewgle applications.

The Apple iPhone 6S Plus doesn't have this problem.

It was a minor upgrade from 6.0.1 to another 6.0.1 ROM, nothing spectacular. GApps worked fine before.

I tried downgrading to the old version which made it work a bit better, but the problem persists.

I just found out that there is a way to move data from SD back to internal, whcih I will try. Let's just hope I haven't accumulated too much rubbish.

Did you transfer to another ROM? Some ROMs are not compatible with certain ROM (and certain apps). The best way is to revert to the latest stable ROM you used.

I reverted but still weird

I'm moving my stuff back to internal now and then I will wipe and reinstall

Wipe /system
Reflash ROM
Install gapps
Done
