Good:
+$999 vs $1299 starting price
+0.8mm vs 0.5mm key travel
+core i5 vs core m3 base processor
+thinner and lighter than the 12" Macbook
+includes the USB dongle in the box. Don't have to pay another 80USD for it.

Bad:
- will have an adequate but ultimately worse screen than the Macbook
- 4gb vs 8gb starting ram
- will have a worse trackpad than the Macbook
- will have worse battery life than the Macbook

Ugly:
- depending on what country you live in due to VAT, taxes etc. the already expensive Macbook will still be cheaper than the Zenbook
- both have anemic port selection rendering all my peripherals obsolete.
- Despite the longer key travel, the keyboard will still be crap.
- fingerprint sensor is only available in pricier models, and when it is included it will be taking up precious space on the touchpad that is already way smaller than the one on the Macbook.

I refuse to believe this is the future of computing.

Reusing the design of long dead speakers and radios isn't exactly what I would call a 1:1 copy.

There is a Core M into my Macbook 12 2016, I do backend development on it mostly, yet I work flawlessly on two PHPStorm instances, SQL workbench, various text/excel files, Photoshop, at least 10 browser tabs, email client and other stuff I can't recall now. Shit is great. I always wonder what you guys do to require much more cpu power than that. Given the fact that SSD and ram mostly make for "user-perceived" speed.

I bought one (x3) recently and I'm impressed, very much so. The thing that struck me was the ass of the laptop was made of aluminum alloy and has substantially larger vents and heat sinks because of the design decision, effectively being colder than laptops of the same class or similar.
Basically it stays 65C when playing games with the fans up at 70%, which ain't bad at all for a laptop of its size. And I have additionally have not encountered throttling either.

One caveat is hinge placement. it creaks a bit much for my liking but it's the only thing I could complain about.
