>talk with my mom about buying insurance for my car
>browse the internet in my phone and get ads on car insurance

Have anything like this ever happened to you?
>>
>get ads
No OP, that's literally never happened to me
>>
all day, people are complaining about Windows 10 and the upcoming botnet but it's already happened

>be OP
>be 16 year old faggot
>tell google my real age when making a youtube account
>to dump to Google how to block ads
>amazed at how Google knows I am going to need to look for car insurance
>and serves me ads based on car insurance
>>
>be riding with my brother to other brother's house several cities away
>brother gets text with address of where we're going
>he is driving so he lets me put the address into my Google Maps on Android phone so we can know how to get there
>start typing the address I see on his iPhone
>Google autocompletes it after only like 2 numbers

Was strange
>>
>>56412581
>to dump

android constantly records what it hears through microphone and uses it for targeted ads, you can remove this in the google privacy center.

Here's a test for you guys.

Make a facebook profile and sign in on your mobile device. Now look at friend suggestions, anything look familiar? Facebook will show friend suggestions based on the emails and phone numbers on your device without approval.

Now, here's where it gets fun. Wipe the fun or buy a cheap ricer burner phone to test, make a facebook account using a throw away email. Look at friend suggestions, not much shows, right? Now go spend a day or two hanging with friends or relatives who also have facebook on their mobile device. The next day facebook will suggest those as friends to you.
>>
>>56412524
It's called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon. Common psychological effect, faggot, no one is spying on your IRL conversations with your mother.
>>

GET OUT OF MY MIND!

GET OUT!
>>

I had the facebook app installed on my phone for awhile back, i only signed into it once, never posted.

I checked App Ops (cyanogenmod) and facebook had requested my location something like 10,000 times in 2 months. Deleted shit right then and there.
>>
>>56412524
Yes, I was in the lineup at an Indian takeout place the other day. "Hey, how spicy is the Lamb Vindaloo?" "medium spicy" Ok I'll take that.

While waiting open my phone and google some unrelated things. "Lamb Vindaloo" ads popping up everywhere.

WHAT THE FFFFFf
>>
>>56414156
Every app you use that uses location constantly requests low power location data from the the google services AP Iwhen the app is in the foreground and frequently when in the background.

Granted, Facebook's background services are most definitely rather aggressive.
>>
>>56414052
Except it's already been proven Fb does this, and if they do it pretty much everybody else is doing it too http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/facebook-using-people-s-phones-to-listen-in-on-what-they-re-saying-claims-professor-a7057526.html
>>
Actually something like this had happen before.
Last year happened at least twice, but it never happened again
>>
>>56412524
Clearly you've never gotten drunk and ordered delivery. All subsequent malware is about pizza (and porn). This is why you block ads, have multiple browsers, clear your cache, and get a VPN as needed. Some travel websites quote higher/lower prices based on IP, OS, browser....history and clickstream are merely a bonus.

Grow up and git gud, newfriend.
>>
I was on /r9k/ and some /tfw no blackgf/ threads. After a while I got ads about local singles, getting a girlfriend, and I believe blackpeoplemeet or some black dating site.

I never notice ads because of ad blockers, but it really creeped me out. Maybe it's a coincidence, but I doubt it.
>>
>>56414264
>except it's already been proven..

"Though Professor Burns said she was not convinced that Facebook is listening in on conversations – it may have been that she was searching for the same things that she chose to discuss around the phone – but she said that it wouldn't be a surprising move from the site."

Read the articles you post you fucking retard

>professor suggests
>entirely anecdotal evidence
>scientific method ignored
>even she knows it's not remotely proof
>>
>>56414454
What are tracking cookies?
>>
>>56414463
>someone demonstrates you're retarded
>immediately move goalposts and pretend it didn't happen
>b-but they use cookies anon!!!!
>>
>>56414478
I'm not him I'm just saying, recordings could easily be stored as a sort of cookie and those same tracking cookies could be used to advertise to you accordinly
>>
>>56414454
Myth 1: they claim to not store audio or recordings. They could easily store keywords it detects from the mic.

Myth 2: they don't address what happens when you don't turn on the feature.

Overall they might not "listen to the mic" but they might be detecting words based audio data. It's all of matter of how you define things. Maybe to them, listening to the mic means playing an audio feed of the mic to a human being at Facebook, or software analyzing the full audio stream instead of a transformed/condensed view of the audio.

>this was my only gift, and it was because of some databank trying to sell me shit.
>>
>>56414486
cookies are limited to 4K so they're not storing any audio (remember that low quality audio is over 100 K/s), moreover if they were doing this it would be comically easy to see as the data in the cookie would change dramatically and consistently.

>>56414505
i mostly don't disagree with this, I just don't concern myself with speculation before there is solid evidence to back up the speculation as being worthy of considering.
>>
>browsing 4 chan yesterday
>ctrl h
>i see the threads i visited yesterday
N-NANI?!

Guy in Ad tech who worked for Facebook posted on HN that the mic snooping thing started by detecting what ads/music you were listening to in meatspace in order to serve you the same online ads to reinforce the "brand experience". That was back in 2013. God only knows what they're doing with the mic now.

"They trust me — dumb fucks."
- Mark Zuckerberg (actual quote)

I work for a security firm. It's installed for testing purposes. Currently Facebook is classified as an IDM-3 (Intelligent Data Miner, Tier 3) and we urge all clients to never install or operate any of it's services on closed networks.

>making a house mod with WWE as codename (for items and map interior)
>listening to music on Youtube, using Chrome
>playlist is long so I don't need to do anything, just playing in the background, didn't even type anything
>mod is finished and published, job done
>close playlist and go to the homepage
>Youtube is recommending fighting videos, WWE fights and championship videos
>mfw Chrome is a keylogger
