Just got myself a nice little chromebook. The OS is taking some getting used to but I was wondering what some /g/ suggested apps/add-ons are?

Also I hear you can load android apps onto this thing. Is that hard or does it just work?

Replace that shit with ChromiumOS, OP
It is literally ChromeOS, but FOSS. And you can access the package manager like a normal linux distro. (in this case it's portage, gentoo's amazing package manager)
>>
>>56385589
FOSS?
Also I'll look into it

If you got a model that has a replaceable SSD, replace that shit and install a Linux distro.

I've had Arch running on an old C720 for years and it's great. Hasn't skipped a beat, and the battery life is actually pretty good.

Best part, I'm not locked into Google's shitty browser OS.

Wew.

If you don't want to install an SSD, get one of these for additional storage.

To install GNU/Linux inside ChromeOS, use this.

To get rid of ChromeOS and replace it with GNU/Linux, use this.

As for Android apps, you're on the list.

But in order to get those apps, you just have to

You can get Chromebooks with i3 and i5 processors and 4GB RAM for pretty good prices.
>>
>>56386607
If all you want to do is causally browse the web, why bother with a full laptop?
>>
>>56386743
>4GB RAM
Bitch do you know how much ram I use.
>>
>>56386879
Too much of you cant manage with 4
>>
So these things cant run exe files or anything? I mean, I get the idea behind them but skimping so much on the storage and functionality seems like a mistake
>>
>>56387353
i think its for people who dont use much software and only browse the web etc.

So instead of buying a fancy 1k macbook you buy a super cheap chromebook and it pretty much does the same thing for normies
>>
>>56387452
So why does /g/ keep going on about them?
>>
>>56387480
because its normie tech

they are mad it isnt aimed at them
>>

I could only stand the limitations for a month then decided to open it up and remove write protection and install linux on it, works well after replacing the sound.state file
>>
>>56387588
Really I only brought it for two day trips and watching porn in bed. I already have a full desktop so I don't think the limitations are going to be a problem. This thread was made so I could find out what apps and shut will give me the most out of it
