You can get pretty toasty with Intel if you use it. They're all small heaters. AMD's just worse.

This. The amount of power consumed by an electrical thing and the amount of heat produced are exactly the same. If your fan uses more power than your CPU, your fan makes more heat than your CPU (though it might not be the same temperature, and it might be good at what it does which is spreading the heat out).
Of course this isnt very helpful if you want to reduce the heat.

im overclocking my 4690k and now when i stand up i can feel the top half of my room filled with hot air from my pc
and its only 4.4Ghz
also using r9 390 but that doesnt have any voltage increases. stays within 72-74C even at full load
