Is there a text editor as good as sublime text but free as in freedom?

I'm not interested in emacs or vim.

I like it but it doesn't look as good.

Nope.

You want quality and to be fee too? Lol dude get real and go outside in the real world of survival, same goes for all the muh freedomz neet fuckers that havent worked a day in their life.

He made a god tier editor, he deserves money so he can buy food for fucks sake. Also even after that he still doesnt require from you to give your money ever:
>Sublime Text may be downloaded and evaluated for free, however a license must be purchased for continued use. There is no enforced time limit for the evaluation

Atom. It has _most_ of the functionality of sublime, but it's shit because it's a browser, not a true editor.

>>56378588
this might be the second best answer, unfortunately
>>
>>56378561
You asked which is as good and free. I answered. If your worried about aesthetics when writing code then you are in the wrong business
>>
>>56378618
sorry to have triggered you

part of the appeal of sublime is that it looks good
>>
>>56378636
I'm not triggered I just don't see how the look of the editor makes a difference? Shouldn't you be focused on functionality?
>>
>>56378526

>>56378732

Why ? I code 5-6h per day on it.
>>
>>56378851
it's a resource hog because it's an editor built on top of a web browser. so it's inherently bloated
>>
>>56378577
This.
This fucking board is full of underages that want shit for free.

If you don't have the money to buy it, you probably don't need it because you don't have a fucking job.
>>
Atom is basically a FOSS Sublime clone and at this point it as more features than it.

It's free, easier to install plugins, easier to make plugins than Sublime.
>>
>>56378876
VS Code is the same but performs much better.

Regardless, a programmer-oriented text editor is a first-class application worth the resources.

>>
>>56378876

Well I don't code on a 10 years PC with 1Go RAM...
I'm on Linux, with 8 Go of RAM, Kettle opened, Atom with 2 projects and over 50000 lines of code, Firefox, Chrome, Jasperstudio, Tomcat6, Vagrant for testing my dev and I do not feel your """"bloated"""" shit dude...

Maybe masturbating to much on /g/ was not so good for your mind.
>>
Atom of course!
>>
VSCode is opensource., but i dont think is libre, i believe is still tied to Microsoft

Adobe has one called Brackets but same again. its only opensource not libre
>>
>>56378998

No, this argument can be made for an IDE but not a fucking text editor. Atom treats opening up 5mb+ files like an edge case. Every plugin installed significantly bloats and slows things down.

Just use vim you fucking faggot.

>A bloo bloo bloo an editor that requires a small curve to learning with the same capabilities after taking some time to set up, but infinitely more useful in the field of computers

Just use atom or shell up the cash.
>>
>>56379145
it's just not about the cash, it's about muh freedoms
>>
By the time atom opens you will have forgotten what you wanted to do.
>>
>>56379145

Vim is fucking disgusting
At least Emacs can be used with minimum knowledge
>>
>>56379004
Yeah I'm working 8h+ day in Atom. But you can feel it's bloated and VSCode works smoother. Atom addons are love.
>>
>>56379303

It's kind of funny because VS and Atom are build on the same framework: Electron

So...

Holy shit, Sublime looks like shit. Fuck you OP, Emacs Mustard Rice.
>>
>>56378998
vscode is different though.
vscode is built upon a electron fork made by microsoft that is almost an entirely different codebase the js components are only used for the UI. and for extensions.
atom however has an entire chromium browsre built into it and is running atom shell inside that.
shits whack yo.
>>
Atom is free, open source and both looks and functions somewhat similar to sublime text.
>>
>>56380871
But its written in Js, so therefore useless

vim retard
>>
>>56378929
Atom is really fuckong slow. Keyboard lag is common. VSCode is also slow to load. Sublime just runs instantly and does my bidding. Worth the money. Vim is not fun to configure or write plugins for.
>>
>>56381486

you might want to consider neovim - I hear it's better for that

It's basically nano but actually useful.

what is the canonical package manager for sublime?

atom feels "safer" because you just install anything from within the application

I just tried sublime because of this thread and holy molly it is snappier
>>
What the heck is neovim? It seems like it's better than vim, but what exactly is it's deal? What makes it better?
>>
>>56378732

what's wrong with atom and flawed with and in atom, though?

Don't be retarded, just learn vim.
If you're insisting, Atom is good, but there's no good reason not to learn vim.

Why even sublime over emacs? emacs can do everything sublime can plus. I mean its even free and does way more. emacs can even gayass minimap etc.
>>
>>56385468
I learned vim, what now ? I want autocomplete and I don't want to spend 10 days configuring and reinstaling it coz it broke etc.
