I want something like the surface pro 3, but there might be better alternatives out threw I don't know about.

Should I get the surface pro 3, or are there better slimmer similer priced laptop/keyboards?

there is not. there are alternatives from hp and other brands but they are not cheaper and best support and build quality is on surface's.

If you value longer battery life you could consider Galaxy Note Pro. It has android and no stand though.

there is not much difference between 4 and 3. but there is huuge difference between type cover 4 and 3. even if you get pro 3 get it with type cover 4. Personally I would recommend surface pro 4 with m3 processor if you don't need too much power because its fanless.
