Sure the architectures are semi compatible, but that's what we're talking for emulation.
Perhaps the N64 would make you happier, still MIPS but the SGI microcode shit in there makes it a real headache. Really, N64's the hard limit on what the PSP could do. With some optimizations, maybe it could run everything.

There, that's our benchmark. 10-30x the power of the original system needed to emulate. (I know you're all gonna bang on about IPC and shit but there's a rough 10 year gap between each chip so lets say that compensates.)
Now let's compare the Vita to the PS2:
4x 2GHz Cortex-A9 cores, something near identical to the iPad 3's GPU (Look up the specs yourself), and 640MB of memory to go round, to handle a 300MHz MIPS abomination, a 150MHz parallel processor (again, look it up and compare them) with 36MB of ram.

As far as I'm concerned, that's at the limit of what you could push the Vita to do, the GPU being the only thing that might hold it back (It's honestly not all that good)

I don't own a 3DS but the Vita's proprietary memory cards are dogshit. I was lucky to get a vita with a 32gb card for about £130 a few years ago. But the worst part is not that they have proprietary hardware, they literally get tied to a PSN account too, so selling them on is not as easy as one would like to assume.
