Have a ssh service opened on port 22 and some IP from Vietnam is trying to crack my root password. And it's only been 17 hours of opening. How the fuck do people automatically know that I have ssh opened up?
Because you're running ssh on port 22 dumbass

They're scanning a range of ip's for commonly open ports. It's nothing personal or anything, it's like those annoying robo-calls you get, automated.

You can't be serious

Your system responded when the bot tried your IP on SSH port.
Either change your port and/or block the IPs with fail2ban.
A simple nmap usually shows a lot of information about your server.

... kid
Automatic IP range scanning.
Install fail2ban, block root logins & use a key-based login.
