Should I run some tests for the first startup?

What tests?
What am I testing for?
>>
memtest86
>>
>>56359231
Just that? And I should be good?
>>
Yes, an IQ test
>>
>>56359151
What anime is this from?
>>
>>56359584
You have to install gentoo, too, so you can test for everything else.
>>
>>56359603
The one with nice boats
>>
>>56359151
memtest overnight to check RAM

prime95 stress test to check CPU

furmark/unigine stress test to check GPU
>>
>>56359615
That's not kancolle.
>>
>>56359584
You can run IntelBurnTest to see if your cooling system is good at max. Use Realtemp to make sure the cpu isn't throttling.
Otherwise, yeah.
>>
>>56359151
hwmonitor
prime95
gpu-z
cpu-z
furmark
crystaldiskmark
Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool

No matter what, your hardware shouldn't freeze / restart / die. So if it does, do something so it won't do the next time.

>>56359598
To be fair I'm not being a complete baby. I'm also utilizing the wiki.install Gentoo site to help me as well.

>>56359646
I have stock fans but I'll look into it.

>>56359626
Could Prime 95 or furmark damage my system? How long do they take to run?

>>56359671
What temps should I look out for when running those tests?
>>
>>56359715
>Could Prime 95 or furmark damage my system? How long do they take to run?

I would run prime95 for an hour and furmark for 15 minutes

they can't damage your system due to thermal safety mechanisms but you should be checking your temps the whole time to make sure you are within a reasonable limit

>>
>>56359752
Thank you. But what is a reasonable limit?

I'm honestly curious because I keep hearing this rumor that temp monitoring doesn't matter anymore because new hardware will shut down or under clock itself if it gets too hot.
I'm going to monitor it anyway because I'm OCD and anxious
>>
>>56359882
No more than 70C.
>>
>>56359882
80C absolute max, 60-70 is hot, 60 is around the max I would want it to run for prolonged sessions
>>
>>56359946
OK. That's the 1st time I heard that. I am on average told 80c is too hot. But only for prolonged periods of time.

It seems everyone has a difference of opinion on temps.

>>56359974
Dell's tech support told me 90c is the max. Lol. But I usually average 65c - 70c. I max out on 80c with demanding games...
>>
>>56360091
>I max out on 80c with demanding games...

That's pretty damn hot, I would check airflow and your fan profiles
>>
80°C isn't too hot for a GPU or CPU, most won't throttle until 95 to 105°C.
>>
>>56360260
wut

gtx 1060 starts thermal throttling at 60
>>
>>56360279
>>56360260

sorry, meant 1080
>>
>>56360260
What happens during a thermal throttle?

>>56360279
60c for a brand new 1080?
What will happen to it?

From nVidia's own website, same for the 1060 and 1080.

>>56360317
The clock speeds and voltages will be reduced to curb power draw to keep the temperature from rising more. You'll have poor performance while that happens.
>>
Fuck, Windows 10 didn't give me the option to create a Recovery partition for system images upon startup like the Wiki said it would.

I thought I already had one on this drive. And I don't have any others to create one. Fuck
Do I have to format this drive and restart all over?

It used to pop up on other computers. I did do a fresh install of Windows though
