Why is font rendering on Windows so fucking god-awful? Seriously.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Why is font rendering on Windows so fucking god-awful? Seriously. Lincucks does a way better job at aliasing fonts than windows and the only options you need are hinting and RGB-order/greyscale aliasing. The Cleartype dialogue for choosing "which looks best" is a complete fucking joke clearly designed by a Pajeet.

The Apple Macbook Pro with Retina Display doesn't have this problem.
>>
>>56340179
No shit. It's a homogenous product. They can literally hardcode aliasing based off their predetermined specification.

ANTI-aliasing, not aliasing.

Genius! :^)

It's fine if you have a high dpi screen and scale text.
Source: very big font rendering snob, but have no problem with my 4k 17.3 inch screen scaled to 150 percent

I've never understood this. What is wrong with the fonts in Windows? I haven't seen any difference between using linux operating systems and windows operating systems in terms of font rendering quality.

This is all quite dubious.

Shut up pajeet
>>
This is an easy trick to increase your font rendering performance

Wow, I just did this, everything now runs 5x faster! Thanks bro

it depends on the dpi of your monitor, if you are using a 1080p 15 inch panel, it's probably find.

I use a common 1080p 22 inch panel, and I can't for my life read text on the screen, the font is of the proper size but the rendering is all blurry, it makes me wanna vomit.

In linux they look nice.
>>
They actually look kinda OK on high dpi screens. It looked fine on my friend's laptop, 15.6" 4K.
Looks like ass on my 1080 23" though.

Please can someone explain me the difference in font rendering between different OSs? I'd really appreciate a side by side comparison with explanation, because even when I look at the picture, I usually fail to see difference.

I beg thee, I want to join the group that is able to complain about font rendering, but I can't do that unless I can tell the difference.

Basically, different OS's use a different type of patented font rendering algorithm to display text smoothly on screens. Microsoft has favored the more crisp type of algorithm where as Apple and Linux favor a more designer-intended algorithm. Even though you can change it in Windows, the way it displays sub-pixel RGB anti-aliasing is fundamentally different. I haven't been able to find how much different these are but basic screenshots should be able to give you an idea.

Thank you, I'll look into these.
>>

The gist is that font hinting is more legible on low resolution monitors
and a lack of hinting (like Apple does it), is more true to the font.

Windows 7 doesn't have this problem
