>wow this thing is really cool
>order one
>it arrives
>spend hours installing and configuring linux
>so what now
>already have a large htpc used also as a file server and a web server
>pi is slow as shit anyway, it does like 10MB/s over cable tops
>don't care about robotics and shit
so what is something cool i can do with this thing?
>>
>>56308492
Watch movies and tv shows, thats what most people do
>>
>>56308512
that is what my htpc is for
>>
>>56308492
I found some code that can turn the GPIO pins into an FM transmitter if you add an appropriate antenna.
>>
>>56308551
how do the pins work? do they basically turn current on and off in each pin so you can control shit like that?
>>
I'm glad I see threads like this just often enough to hold off the urge to buy one.

They are cool and dirt cheap but I really don't have a use for one.
>>
>>56308492
>wow this thing is really cool
no. it isn't.
you're a fucking faggot who jumps onto bandwagons and trends because you're a fucking loser who can't think for himself.
millenials in a nutshell right there.
>>
>>56308588
Why are you triggered so hard?

There are instructions for countless applications all over the internet, including the main site

Do your own searching m8 how the fuck would I know what you're into

Jesus
>>
>>56308568
also read current from them.

I don't know how the code works, I am thinking about getting a pi to try it, though.
>>
>>56308611
i wanted to buy one but it is long term sold out here ;_;
>>
>>56308611
He couldn't figure out how to get his working at all and got mad and threw it and broke it. Therefore, the Raspberry Pi sucks.
>>
>>56308620
I can code, that is not a problem, i just don't know what to really connect to those pins and control.. i don't have any use for shit like servos
>>
>>56308492
Tor relay, please
>>
>>56308645
an antenna

look up the Southern Appalachian Space Agency
>>
>>56308492
>buys device with 100mbit/s network interface
>wonders why it only does about 10mb/s
you are some special kind of retard....

Stop doing things bass-ackwards and realize a need before buying a tool. It's a small, low-power general-purpose computer for 24/7 stuff that doesn't need much computational power. If you have no use for that, give it to someone who does.
>>
>>56308492
You can stick it up your ass, and have that sharp feeling in your rectum be the small reminder to stop buying shit if you can't think of a use for it.
>>
>>56308571

Cram 50 bucks worth of converters on it to get clean RGBS signals out of it.
Hook it up to an arcade monitor and jizz your pants because muh perfect scanlines

They're great for a Git server or a media player, but other than that, it's largely aimed towards DIY projects.

This might not be for you, anon.
>>
>>56309108
Seconded

I've also been running my Zero off a 11200mAh battery pack since last night, with HDMI turned off and PiHole doing its thing from 12:00am - 8:10pm the battery is currently at 58%.

I want to get this sucker solar powered for funsies as the next step.

for some reason the ethernet is done over the usb bus

Strap it to your genitals.
Run into street naked.
Tell everyone you're on your way to a fancy-dress party... and you're going as a fruit.

You're welcome.

That reason would be that the SoC doesn't have ethernet and only has one USB interface, so on the model B it goes into another chip that hubs it out and has an ethernet interface and PHY.

It was designed backwards: the GPU came first and the ARMv7 was an afterthought, which is why the GPU boots first.

What doesn't make sense to me is why they haven't changed that in the later models, especially given that Broadcom make moderately good Ethernet interfaces.

Perhaps they'll do a bit of a SoC redesign in the next Pi. It would be nice to see a VideoCore V with 10-bit paths capable of HEVC High Profile, better ARMv8 Cortex cores, Gigabit Ethernet and more USB onboard with less unused hard-coded video codec space (who really needs that Chinese codec? those are wasted transistors) and a process node shrink. Costs are coming down so maybe that could happen in a couple of years.
>>
>>56308492
Learn to use the gpio pins, it's half the point of buying one. You can throw tons of different circuits together using the pi as the logic controller.
>>
>>56308645
Start with leds so you get an idea of how they're setup. You can then come up with random things you want it to do. You can do home automation using an i2c add on board with high voltage relays.
>>

Install retropie and play classic console and arcade games at the comfort of your couch

how feasible is placing a pi zero in a place where it can steal public wifi

well, you would need to setup the wifi before turning it on, so you would need the pw ahead of time.

another thing to setup is the dynamic dns, which is easy enough, if you want to ssh into the machine, and if you can do that you can do all sorts of shit.

then your next, and biggest problem, would be how to keep the thing powered up. guess you would need a battery pack, which then you would have to switch now and then.
