This is why lightning is objectively better.

You can bet that as USB type C gets popular and people buy cheap chink cables that are either too loose or too tight that people will jam the cables into the sockets and snap the center pin array on a bunch of devices.
>>
>>56305998
>+ No need for 3.5 mm jack
How are you supposed to connect your phone/laptop to an analog audio system (like headphones, speakers or anything) without this jack, you fucking moron
>>
>>56305998
>+ No need for 3.5 mm jack
What advantage does audio specifically have switching over to USB-C?

Nothing.

You're now moving the DAC from the smartphone to your headphones, increasing the cost and weight and power consumption of headphones.
>>
>>56306653
>>insert at a slightly tilted angle

I don't think you know how sockets work.

Also confirmed for never having even seen a USB-C port in person.

I got a pretty nice braided 10' usb c cable on amazon for $12. Been using it as a replacement for the short one that came with the nexus 6p. Pretty expensive for a cable but it's really sturdy and has lasted me a while so far.

>>
>>56306688
I should explain it better since you're going to reply with massive butthurt.

It's not possible to insert it at such an angle to do what you describe. The tolerance is not great enough in the port itself. It was specifically designed this way.
>>
>>56306710
Except when you use a cheap chink cable or cheap chink tablets with USB type C ports. My LG G5 type C cable wiggles so much on my tablet that it'll become unplugged if I just touch the cable with 1 finger.

Tolerances and specifications mean jack shit to the chink making a cable for a buck and cutting every corner possible.
>>
>>56306754
So don't buy cheap chink shit. Problem solved laddy.
>>
>>56306799
Tell that to the rest of the world when these things get mainstream.
People will have both cheap chink shit, and cheap chink cables.
It's already a problem with cheap micro USB cables being out of spec.

No. And an angry FUCK NO. The benefit of USB C is allowing us to fit more ports, more battery, and make more useful computers.

I am a fucking man, goddamnit. I am not a woman or a hipster that wears skinny jeans and carries tiny laptops in my purse. When I'm at work, I have a suit and a regular phone fits unnoticeably in it. If I have a laptop at work, I just carry it the fuck around without trying to stuff it into a tiny bag, and the width and length matter more to me because they control where I can set it. Thinness just controls....how skinny and stylish the bag you might put it in is. And how impossible it is to replace even more short lived componenets.

>>56310540
I say good riddance to usb micro.
It was a shit design.
The retaining tabs are never manufactured to last and usually wear out within weeks.
The end of the cable is often made of two pieces, the inner contains the pins, while the outer is the shape you see on the outside. The outer attaches to the inner only by the pins sliding inside and a protruding bar goes over the inner and goes over a raised lump to hold it in place.
Over time the bar will bend, resulting in the outer metal piece wobbling around, leading the the retaining pins not sticking out far enough and the causing the plug to fall out.
Once the bar bends enough, the data, power, and ground pins will be able to contact the outer piece and short out. It gets hot enough to actually lightly burn someone, I have been burned by it myself.
Pic related.

I'm not going to bother quoting you faggots.

USB C is capable of transmitting analog audio using the phone's intenal DAC. You can make a passive USB C to TRS or TRRS adapter. USB C headphones without a DAC are also possible for the same reason.

It can also do digital audio and bypass the phone DAC.

DAC fags please go.

Yea, but companies dont sell what their customers want anymore
The phone manufacturers are locked in a thin phone pissing contest that almost rivals "amd vs nvidia", and like their power consumption, the phone companies dont care what gets wrecked in the process.

Android was originally going to be a Blackberry clone. (pic related)
Ugh, I want my Windows Mobile 6 devices back, infintely hackable, so many different ROMs and cool actual productive software. It's the main reason why I'm still using a Note 2, it's the closest to Windows Mobile in terms of hacker community and physical ports. The new Notes suck ass.

I love Type C. Literally haven't had any problems with it in the past three months I've been using it versus micro where I would have gone through a "high quality" cable by now

THANK YOU, I was beginning to think that literally everyone one on this board was a complete idiot.

I'm not a huge fan of the idea of using adapters for headphones, but since most people only use headphones with their smartphone anyway, I imagine they'll start manufacturing them with USB c plugs in place of 3.5mm.
>>
I'd be all for it on laptops, however the companies that use them only like to include 1-2 and think it's okay to just ditch every port.
>>
The future is wireless charging and wireless headphones/everything and thats the good way

no, they weren't cheap.

Your analogy is crap.

Printers gained a lot by going USB, whereas a USB-C flash drive functions the same as a USB-A flash drive, except it may be unnoticeably faster for large files.

USB-C is more like the MiniDisc - technically better, but offering more of the same.

I can't tell if OP is stupid or a troll. Most of this shit existed before USB C and he failed to address anything actually useful

>>56311258
it's called MHL, it existed before USB C, and having a C port does not guarantee having HDMI out (see: Nexus 6P)

now how about actually useful shit:
-reversible connector
-higher max amperage
-19V mode for laptops
-integral DisplayPort

OP is a troll and/or fuckwit.

ALL HAIL USB MICRO B
>>
>>56314464
this simply isnt true.
It may be the case that you only use use on your cellpone and you never move your phone while its charging, but you need to realize that a whole shit ton of devices use usb micro. Cell phones, xbox controllers, arduino, raspberry pi, gopro. These devices are not all in the exact same spot. Usb micro simply isn't durable.

It might also be the case that you have a usb micro cable that is one piece, but as explained in >>56310845 , most of the cable are actually two pieces that are not fused to gether.

It's what happens when the thing you push is proprietary and if anyone else wants to use it they have to license it.

No it's not. USB2.0 isn't capable of 5.4Gb/s, anon. Slimport is. It's a DisplayPort standard that shares the microUSB connector.

Is wireless charging any good? I am thinking about doing it for my Note 5.
>>
>>56323865
first and last post you replied to here.
Ive never found a good cable, and the only way to know is to cut the boot off and look at it.
The main probelm with doing that is they are designed to have the rubber boot act as the thing that holds it all together.
I suspect its the rubber stretching over time that allows it all to fuck up.
Ive had many cables over the years, they all do this eventually. I'm hesitant to buy a $20 cable because most likely its just re badged chink shit cables.
Ive attempted repair on them before, the first attempt was a failure.
The second attempt was also a failure, learned solder wont stick to the cover at all.
Next Im going to try to weld it, mostly for the lulz. Ill be surprised if the whole thing doesn't just melt. The end product should always be considered a fire hazard.

>>
>>56324051
>progress
Progress would imply moving forward, meaning some sort of improvement or advancement. There is literally no advantage to using USB type C over 3.5mm for audio. In fact, it's worse because now that you're working with encoded data and not analog signals, every USB pair of headphones or speakers you want to use has to have a DAC built in. It's just stupid not to use a standard that's been tried and true just because there's a shinier option.
