I best you. In retrospect, I'm not quite in the same boat. At the office I have a pair of 24" 1920x1200 and at home a single 25.5" 1920x1200. I don't particularly need more powerful screens (since the horsepower goes to the HMD, not the monitors)

Though I am wanting to upgrade or add a second monitor for at home, but need a bigger desk and some other shit to take care of first.

Unless you want to spend tens and tens of thousands of dollars, give it up lad. A more reasonable (and sane) setup might be the somewhere along these lines:

4 way crossfire for four 3x slot gpu's
And dual xeons, 10HDD's, a basement for a pyramid of 15+ SSD's and enough room for an extended server board to have 32 ram slots and have a full custom water cooling loop alongside dual phase change coolers for the xeons

You have a purpose for using a computer. There is a solution. More than one, in fact.
That solution changes depending on what constraints you apply to the problem.

If you said you wanted to build a leet gaymer PC, you would put a limit on your CPU core count (this depends on the game) and put in as many GPUs as you could (this also depends on the game).
Other factors, like quantity of RAM available or I/O speed tend to be almost inconsequential so long as the minimum requirements are met.

If you said you wanted a computer that could encode videos at lightning speed, you would choose to maximize CPU core count and have no GPU, since those do nothing. Speaking of maximizing core count, it is possible for encoding software to take advantage of networked clusters to have a theoretically infinite amount of cores.
So then your problem is "at what point does the overhead of splitting the problem across the cluster exceed the speed increase of adding more cores?", and "how fast do I really want to encode a given video/audio stream?"

tl;dr, ENGINEERING.

The Quadro series are expensive but anything you need for gaming is there too. A Quadro M6000 is pretty much a 980ti. Lol they're marketed towards large companies that have extremely large files to render in ultra high res. The Quadro M6000 can handle a project file up to 24GB, hence 24GB

TSX on the 4790k is bugged (it's bugged on all Haswell, Haswell-E/EP, and broadwell CPUs) and if yours is enabled it just means your motherboard manufacturer didn't push out the microcode update for your CPU.

As far as I am aware even skylake CPUs dont have TSX enabled because of a bug. Broadwell-E and EP might however.

Unless you are a richfag, what's best is a combination of what you want to do with your PC (gaming/work/etc) and the best ratio of relevant performance measurements per dollar spent (such as G3D Mark / dollar).
