I'm going (back) to university soon, so I'm putting my desktop in storage, because I can't really use it properly while I'm away. I have a laptop I can use while I'm there, but it only has so much storage. What's the easiest/best/least expensive way to take my hard drives from my desktop PC and access them from the laptop? Multi-HDD enclosure? NAS? Something else?
>>
What laptop?
>>
USB sata docks are pretty cheap.
>>
How many hard drives do you have? What's the overall capacity? Simple NAS costs relatively cheap nowadays. You have to have somewhere to keep it though.

Currently a chinkpad, but I might be swapping for an XPS 13 or Macbook Pro.

>>56289192
Might look into it, but I think having multiple separate docks (or swapping drives) would be inconvenient.

>>56289212
3x 3TB, 1x 1TB, 10TB total with about 70% used. I might be able to find somewhere to keep a NAS, but I'm not sure.

I'd personally go with Synology DS216j. It's probably the best thing under $250.
>>
>>56289288
considering you have so many, I actually would go with the NAS route

alternatively, you could stop being a faggot and just get one either 500gb or 1tb ex hdd, then put the essential files on it.
You don't need every series, every film, every album and song on that thing, or every game

just get your favorites and take those with you.
>>
>>56289517
My essentials total most of the used storage. It's not everything, but my studies mean it's very useful to keep it all local.

>>56289517
I will probably go the NAS route, though. Anyone else have recommendations
>>
>>56289532
what are you taking with you, that consumes so much digital space?
>>
>>56289156
>put your desktop under your bed running as a storage server
done
>>
>>56289476
Wouldn't DS416j be better choice for OP since he has 4 drives?

If you have esata port on laptop, then:
