OP3 has one of the best screens for daylight outdoor usage.

The "shitty" screen you've heard of is only due to the reviewers using a magnifier.

Under normal usage, you won't notice any difference.

So i'm going to be a wageslave for the next few weeks starting from Monday. Although i'm probably going to drop from insomnia, I can appreciate the pay out. ( about 12 hours a day. )

With this taken into account I can finally get myself a better phone to replace my Lumia 640 ( medicore battery life, not enough ram / speed, etc. )

And i'm probably going for a more expensive phone because all of this.

I just want something reliable with high enough clock speeds, at least 2 GB ram and a good battery. Metal design and gimmicks like a fingerprint scanner, etc. are all right by me.

My budget is about 500 Euros and i'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a Huawei P9 when my pay check arrives.

No or go? Recommendations are welcome.

What's the point of Android 7? It has no big features that couldn't be part of a .1 release for Marshmallow. Is there any way to fully secure an android device from a factory reset?

I just factory reseted my OP3 because I wanted to install the latest beta thingy they have going on and while I was at it I was trying to check out the theft protection of this piece of shit.

Basically I've resetted it now and I'm stuck at pic related. Unfortunately "find my device" doesn't seem to be able to do anything while the phone is stuck in this state. So how the fuck is someone supposed to protect the phone from theft? From what I can tell this expires after 72 hours and the thief would be able to restore the device using his own account.
>>
>>56245107
Oh and by the way I could factory reset from the built in recovery and it didn't ask me anything. This means someone could easily grab my phone and be an absolute madman and factory reset it and there's nothing I can do about it. I can't believe there is no way to protect these shitphones from theft and factory reseting.

Had my Zenfone2 for a year now. Pretty decent phone, however the front camera has failed for the last month - looking for an alternative as the Intel processor is irritating as fuck. Around $400 mark from bottom line.

A lot of people don't like being locked into a contract, and in many places you can get more data for less money with no contract.

I have to be on contract because of where I'm living (you can't really get a phone off contract here) but once I'm back in the US i expect I won't bother with one.

Ayooo

I've been using RR for most of 2016. Occasionally I get strange bootloops that force me to reflash the ROM and wipe cache/davlik to get it to boot. I don't see similar complaints on the XDA thread though so I assume it's a particular issue with my phone. When it boots though no worries, I get 6 hours SoT over 36 hours total usage. I don't play any graphics intensive games.

I've been looking at potential replacements for the phone for a while. I've replaced the screen 3-4 times and the battery twice, it's having a few little quirks that are not ideal. However, nothing has come up that really makes me want to ditch it. Battery life in particular and based back buttons keep me on it.
>>
More and more I am convinced to get the OP3, seeing how huge the support base on XDA is.

Crappy micro, and sound quality? Can be fixed.
Shitty SoT? Can be fixed
Overheating? Can be fixed

And so on

The only thing you cannot fix is the screen, you gotta have to live with that screen, but that's the only downside I can see.

Also, there is no alternative.
The upcoming Nexus devices are gonna be overpriced and look like shit, and I am pretty sure the cam on OP3 will be better than those on the Nexus.

>HTC
>good cam

Doesn't compute

>>56249280

If a phone launched last year on Android 5, updated to 6 this year and will be updating to 7, what are the odds it'll still get support for 8?

I know iOS supports longer because Apple controls everything, but how does the breakdown work for Android? Are some manufacturers better than others, or do they generally jjust drop support after two years?

Lmao it's that bad in the US is it?

In Australia you can get out of contracts pretty easily and I don't see why I would need a new phone more than once every two years anyways? There's basically no point not getting a plan nowadays with the new plans almost identical across most carriers.

Interesting stuff guys.
>>
>>56250140
Nexus (straight from google) line gets 2 years support, usually about an extra two versions (i.e. nexus 5 launched with 4.4 (K), got 5.x (L) and 6.0.x (M), and isn't getting 7.0+). However, it will still receive security updates to M. HOWEVER, the developer community is pretty strong on those devices and you can get unoffical versions, hell, aforementioned Nexus 5 already has a beta version for N two days after release.

Most other phones are shitholes when it comes to updates, coming months/years late and getting barely any support. Samsung in particular being notorious for this, but sony is picking up the wheel in that department IMO, along with lenovo/motorola.

I don't know how it works in Australia, but in America you can pay $60-70 for a contract plan with 5GB of data, and $30-45 for an off contract plan with 5GB or more of data.

The reason people go with contracts in the US is the phone is subsidized, but they pay more for the service so it doesn't make sense unless you can't afford to buy the phone outright.

You're an idiot to be on a plan in Aus lad. Go post-paid monthly on an MVNO for 1/4 the cost of the same service on a larger carrier. Not to mention the total cost of that plan over 24 months will be far more than buying a phone outright and shopping around for the cheapest service with the things you need. Not to mention having the freedom to switch services/phones whenever you want. What if the phone you get on plan turns out to bit shit? What happens if your service quality deteriorates and you want to change providers? It'll cost you dearly.

Why do you think phone companies try and coerce you into getting plans? It's much more profitable for them.
>>
>>56242468
Late response, hope you are still around here
Long story short, there are no new noteworthy features

>Control Center
Control center no longer offers the quick access to play your music and change volume. It is on a card that has two screens, the 2nd having the music controls. So you have to swipe up from the bottom, then swipe left to access music controls. That wouldn't be so bad if they didn't replace the music controls with HUGE buttons for AirPlay Mirroring, AirDrop, and a full width button for turning Night Shift on/off (the f.lux shit).

>Notification Cards
You know the little box that comes up when you get a text but you're in another app, all things like that got turned into cards and they all have a translucent white background which make them look kinda icky. Besides that they aren't too bad, I'm okay with them.

>Small Shit Changes
>the music app looks like shit (I honestly did not think they could make it worse but they did)

> What if the phone you get on plan turns out to bit shit?

Don't get a shit phone? The one time I did get a shit phone when smart phones were pretty new I called up, complained and got it swapped in store for another one.

Tbh I find it less hassle to just sit on a good plan with a good phone for 2 years, not worry about filling up or anything like that, then after two years go to a better plan and a better phone.

Oh well to each their own but it's interesting to see the way other countries do it.

>Messages (The biggest change)
This is totally supposed to be thing Apple is pushing to get people into their products. It is absolute shit and a cluttered mess. You can react to text messages by Liking, disliking, hearting, HaHa'ing, !!, and ? on text bubbles. Which slaps another text bubble on the corner of the text bubble you reacted to. If they do not have iOS 10 or are on Android they see another text message saying: { Laughed at "this is a random text message." }
You can send your text with different animations, to slam it down on the screen, to shake the text bubble like its screaming, quietly, invisible ink which is like a
spoiler
. And you can also send them with tacky 90's animations like having balloons floating up in the background or with laser and some other stupid shit.
God.. I can just keep going on and on about how awful messages is.
The keyboard area is so fucking cluttered, the text bar (where you write your text to) is 1/3 the screen width and there are now other icons before it. A camera for pictures, an icon of fingers tapping a heart for sending taps, drawings, and hearts, and there's also an app store icon which I guess allows you to use 3rd part apps for the keyboard, I see random Reddit image macros when I click on it.
Emojis got a redesign, a bit softer look and a lot bigger. They look about the same but they fixed that stupid grimacing one.

So what makes me hate it is that it is a new iteration on their operating system and there is literally nothing to look forward to in it besides a slightly modified look and feel to it. The messages app is definitely what puts me off the most, it is so childish and trying so hard to be like snap chat or social media like.
You can try it for yourself at beta.apple.com It is shit but I like checking out new things.

You can get this for $100 a month, or $2400 over 2 years on a plan.

An S5 costs ~$300, and 12GB of data can be had for $45 a month. Total cost $1380.

Both of those options operate off the optus network. But the second one will save you $1000 and you won't have to worry about locked phones/lock in contracts and having to hassle people to get out of them.

>>56250800
Hold on a sec, are these figures in Australia too?

Because looking at an S5 on say JB Hi Fi it's a straight $650 and like I said I get all that on Vodafone for $45/month, I think a friend gets similar on Optus and another gets similar on one of those random carriers but pays an extra $10 for the phone.

> these tools

These tools seem very outdated, because like I said I get all of that for $45/month on a plan, I don't know why you're so adamant on the same argument almost grasping at straws trying to find the cheapest site for buying a phone vs a site showing stupidly expensive plans.

Was just curious about other countries but damn you couldn't be more wrong in [current year].

>>
>>56250968
You talking about this m8?

http://shop.vodafone.com.au/mobile-details/samsung-galaxy-s5-black

Because the base plan with 500 MB (Mega Bytes) of data goes for $45/month over 2 years. To get over 12 GB you need to spend $100/month.

You clearly don't want to do any further research besides what your m8 at jb told you.

Looks like an iPhone, which tbqh, I really like. Just not a fan of that chin. They should have put the finger print reader on the bottom instead of the back.

Chin doesn't even look that bad in those renders. Looked worse in some of the other leaks.

Redmi Note 3 Pro fucking issues

Mine just came in today, but it won't fucking connect to WLAN/WiFi. How the fuck do I fix this? I tried manually setting my IP but it just doesn't connect.

Also, does it matter what "locale" I choose in setup? My locale isn't fucking listed.
>>
>>56252260
what router do you have

also if you connect by USB it will turn off wifi and use your PC's connection

also you should probably check if you have a chink ROM or not

Is it bad to leave your phone charging while you sleep? Like, is it bad if it stays plugged in at 100%?

Yeah, I agree. I have a Note 5 and hate carrying it around. I'm thinking about selling it for something smaller. Had a GS4 before that was a really good size. I wouldn't mind something even smaller though. Sony has some, but they don't seem all that great.

G,
Need a phone that has expandable memory, an SD card. Need something that I can program on, Android and a big screen. Also can run emulators and demanding graphics. This phone will likely be my replacement laptop. Need multitasking too and lots of ram.
