How do I get good at being a code monkey? I'm a software

Meditating when you're feeling unproductive helps.

You aren't supposed to program for 8 hours straight. I'm a professional and I only do three hours maybe four on a good day. Do other things like read a tech blog, a book about new tech, design patterns, languages etc.

I have a feeling you're lying here. You read design patterns and languages? What does that even mean?

Personally I spend my off time on 4chan, or reading news articles (sometimes tech related), or chatting with friends.

Now do yourself a favor and go Google it yourself. After that read some fancy articles about subject. Sooner or later you may realize how "bad" code monkey you were in the first place.

I worked as code monkey for a cooking recipe management suite.

Lasted maybe a month, and I started seeing messages from dead philosophers in the code, telling me to SEARCH FOR THE APOCALYPSE SNIPPET.

I quit, and since then have only coded for fun. Never again for money and never because someone told me to.

When I was a beginner, I read a book about design patterns. It's what he was suggesting since you're a beginner too. Eventually you'll want to learn architecture and its even more abstract and literally will make or break your system depending on what criteria is important to you. Dude knows what he's talking about.
