Hi /g/ ,
I bought a (used) ThinkPad 410 today and at the bottom of the screen there is a brighter part, like you can see in the photo. Is this normal? Why is that?

It's broke

Be serious, please.
>>56224608

>>56224689
Can it be fixed?

>no T420 with 1600x900
wat
>>56224796
It was the single model in the shop :(
I think I made a mistake :( The laptop is nice, has an i5, but the display is trash with that backlight bleeding. I already installed Arch on it. Fuck.
>>56224965
Buy a new high res display then
>>56224978
Right now I really can't do much. I'll try to live with it.
Currently using a T410. I don't have this problem. Do you have more photos? It's seem is just the desktop image that fade.
Yes, buy a new screen.
Side note, how big of a difference is 1600×900 on a X200? I was thinking of upgrading it but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
>>56224994
Here
is it an ips display? most ips displays have some degree of backlight bleed/glow. otherwise it's probably just old trash.
>>56225035
as far as i remember x200 is 16:10, so you wont really fit 1600x900 in there
>>56225113
I'm OP, mine is 1280x800.
>>56224965
tfw you fell for the meme
>>56225128
Yeah, so thats 16:10 too.
My T400 is 16:10 and it goes up to 1440x900, so thats prolly the screen you should get
>>56225176
Sorry. That's what I meant.
I've heard about issues with the 1440×900 and libreboot so I'm just mainly concerned about that aspect.

I have a Qnix monitor that had an issue similar to this. Understand, before I go to far, that this might not work for you, I'm no expert.
I was able to solve the bleed on my monitor by putting some tape on the metal frame around the monitor.
If you take your laptop apart, down to the monitor, you might find that the actual screen is enclosed in a metal housing. The screen itself might have this housing wrapping around it's perimeter. If your laptop monitor is anything like my Qnix screen, the metal that wraps the perimeter will have a black rubber gasket inside of it that's suppose to create a seal and prevent black light bleeding. I took black electrical tape and folded tape over the metal and the gasket to effectively extend the gasket and allowing it to actually press against the screen.
It worked for me.

Also, reading up on my monitor, another issue that can cause bleeding like this is warping of the screen. You might be able to simply disassemble your monitor and reassemble it, ensuring there is even pressure and the screen isn't warped and you might be able to solve your issue.

I don't know man, I don't have any idea how to do this. The display is trash and I can't afford, or maybe find, a new one. I think I'm gonna reinstall Windows 7 and give it back. I have a Lenovo G580 but I thought the ThinkPad is better (in terms of performance yes, everything else seems horrible for me). I'm so dissapointed.
>>56225339
If you can still give it back then you probably should.
Always check if screen if alright and if there are no badpixels etc when buying used laptops.
>>56225382
Yep, thanks. I'm gonna reinstall 7 and give it back. Thank you guys for helping me! Have a nice day everyone.

You have 2 options:
>1280x800 AFFS screen comparable to IPS
>1440x900 TN screen
>>56225594
Thanks, but I will return it. Can't afford to put more money in this.
