From a technical standpoint, how does No Mans Sky generate near infinite worlds. Does it just have a big pool of characteristics is picks from?

You're a stupid CIA NIGGER.
The algorithm first generates a lot of possibilities, then it promises them to the public. Afterward, it systematically removes 75% of those possibilities, but makes sure not to tell anyone about doing so. Finally, it renders the game in that state. Really quite ingenious.

You don't even play video games terry.

>procedural generation algorithms are not technology
I think you may be in the wrong place.

That's a No Man's Sky-tier procedurally generated meal.

There's a video where they explain how the procedural generation works, but basically the world is generated by an incalculable amount of functions. These functions use the player coordinates as the input value. This way, everything is procedural, not random. That's why if two players wind up at the exact same coordinates, they see the same thing (but not each other lol thanks Sean).

Roughly the same way that Frontier: Elite II did 20+ years ago, only moreso.
